I'm looking to buy a new set of aramith tournament balls and can't figure out how ebay can sell a brand new set fot $189 while most of the other online stores sells them for atleast $240??!!!
I figured I'll ask everybody's opinion first before I do my purchase. Do you guys think the ebay sets are like factory seconds or exactly the same as the more expensive ones online stores sell?

In case anybody is interested in the REAL answer to this question, here it is:

About a year ago, maybe a little more, Aramith rolled out a MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) policy, very similar to the policy a lot of cue makers have. Any direct dealer was made to sign an agreement that they would not advertise Aramith products below the MAP price. Most dealers (myself included) choose to adhere to these policies. It has nothing to do with "gouging" our customers, we simply want to be able to continue to sell Aramith products as licensed dealers.

Now I can't speak about other dealers on Ebay, but as many of you know, Joe Nielsen is often lower than the "regular" internet on a lot of products. This is because Joe seems to operate in a mode of selling below MAP- on many products, not just Aramith- and seeing what he can get away with. I know Joe and I know many people on this forum buy from him- let's be frank- because of this mode of operation he has low prices and he has a good reputation so people know they are getting genuine product and good customer service. So of course it makes sense to buy from him. People should also be aware, however, that in this world of MAP, there are some dealers, such as myself, who if you call or email us, can quote you a price that is well below our standard online MAP pricing- especially if you mention you are an AZB member! So keep that in mind for the future.

Regarding other Ebay sellers- I'm sure some of them are selling knock-offs, so just be careful, and use common sense (the old adage about if something's too good to be true then it probably isn't...)

I was actually looking at buying a set a couple weeks ago and I had some of the same questions. Thanks for posting this.

Just got my set of ebay balls in. The plastic wrap on the box had been cut open! I was really worried I got the old bait and switch when I saw this.

I pulled out one of my scales and checked them. They are all exactly 6 Oz on the money. No signs of use, they are definitely new. They look like Aramith, and weight the correct amount. I'm convinced they are in fact Aramith Pro balls.

Only thing I can think of is they are open box items, or returns that someone is selling on eBay. Overall it was still a good deal for the price.

I ordered a couple sets on eBay today for ~ $150. his feedback was good. Well see how it turns out. I got them off eBay because my wholesaler was out. Wholesale is $120 so the people selling for $240 are getting 200% markup.

100% markup would be exacly 240 the original base cost of 120 plus 120 for markup. I think most retailers work on a 100% markup.

Used to you could buy Meucci sticks direct and get 55% off on a small order so a 100 stick you paid 45 for it, you could mark it up 100% see it for 90 buck and still be under the retail suggested price.

Wholesale on these is way more than $120, don't know where that came from but this is not even close to correct. Maybe wholesale on the knock-offs is $120.

Dunno where u are getting your stuff from, but I get them for $123.66. And no, they arent knock offs. Might be time for you to find a new supplier.
