Aramith Tournament Balls: big price diff between ebay and retail

I'm looking to buy a new set of aramith tournament balls and can't figure out how ebay can sell a brand new set fot $189 while most of the other online stores sells them for atleast $240??!!!
I figured I'll ask everybody's opinion first before I do my purchase. Do you guys think the ebay sets are like factory seconds or exactly the same as the more expensive ones online stores sell?
 
Ebay's Tournament Balls are mis-matched in weight, ranging from a low of
5 & 3/8 oz. to the maximum of 6 oz. Like a box of chocolates per Forest Gump... "Off Ebay, you never know what your going to get"??????

Buy retail from a reputable supplier and ask for a matched set in equal weight.

If the supplier won't accomodate your request, then go to one that will!

There could be a few reasons.

One set may be a knockoff of the original, and you get what you pay for.

The other is that some ebay sellers do not have a brick and mortar storefront they have to pay for and keep the lights on. They are just a middle man or broker if you will. They advertise and do the legwork and they are shipped from the manufacturer or their supplier.
 
Thanks for all the inputs. I'll go check Nielsen's and I still might end up buying my set from Seybert's. Might as well stay with AZ's storefront.
 
You won't go wrong with Nielsen's shop. I've bought a ton of items from him. All of his items are genuine.

I doubt that Aramith makes balls that far apart over all their batches. If I got a set like that, I'd suspect counterfeit. A local room owner bought what he thought was a set of Aramiths and they came in an Aramith box, but the box was unsealed and the balls had off colors. That was at a time when you could get a set of what looked just like (except for the colors and the box) Tournament Balls delivered to your doorstep for $30. Yes, $30 delivered.

The shrink-wrap on Aramith ball boxes is now stamped with their logo.

I carry Aramith ballsets (including Brunswick Centennials). Lemme know what set you are looking at.

I agree, Bob. If they are genuine new Aramith Tournaments from a reputable dealer on Ebay the set won't be mis-matched. Tournaments come from the factory as a matched set so the only way they would get un-matched is if the dealer opened the boxes, weighed the balls and then intentionally mis-matched them. Why bother doing this?

I could see a set of used balls being mis-matched if one or more of the original balls in the set had been replaced.
 
I just bought the tournament set from nielson's off e-bay. They came in a factory sealed box. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I won't reveal my source but the dealer price on these ball is around 150.00....give or take. I have no problem buying off ebay if the usual suspects want to gouge almost 100 bucks off a sale of pool balls. The cheapest price on this set was 240.00....I highly recommend nielsen's billiard supply. They also have Centennials at 199.00....or the TV Centennials at 214.00.

I ordered a couple sets on eBay today for ~ $150. his feedback was good. Well see how it turns out. I got them off eBay because my wholesaler was out. Wholesale is $120 so the people selling for $240 are getting 200% markup.
 
I have bought several sets off of reputable sellers on Ebay, and yes there is a problem. These balls refuse to go in the holes for me....I don't know if they are over-sizes or what?:o

$199.95 at Nielsen's. Let me see if I get lucky and search for that $150 for an unopened set. Thanks for the heads up.

That would be the set indeed.

To the OP,

They are a great set of balls but I must caution you a little on the action of the cue ball. It does not take very much to maneuver it around and it very easy to over shoot position but it is still a joy to hit it and know that it took so little effort.
