Here are couple of simple fixes I came out with to minimize carriage binding.
First Item: The lube was given to me by a friend who's a retired machinist, I was so surprised when I tried it and found out how great it worked
Second Item: Delrin gib. The taig carriage was designed to work on a ground steel bed, therefor the gib is made out of brass, as for most taig based cue lathes, they use anodized aluminum beds. The principle of all carriages based on what all my machinists say and based on what I have learned so far about machines. The gib must be made out of a material softer than the bed, so thats why I started making the Gibs out of delrin and I find it to work better than the brass one
Third item is a very simple idea, on how to convert your steady rest into a concave live center, this one works great for anyone with a repair lathe and does not have a tailstock and concave live center for cleaning shafts, I also made a steel one for a 60deg. The concave piece I made out of delrin and tapered on one side from 16mm to 12mm , so it will fit any shaft
Last item is my 3/8" semi hards steel chuck keys, also a very simple idea and it works great with taig
chucks
Since I have gotten so many PMs for the gib, I will sell them for $13 ( available to ship in 10 days)shipped is via first class mail any where in the USA
Super Slick Lube: $12 too
3/8" Steel Rods: $13 shipped ( currently out of stock)
Concave live center, not for sale at this time, it's just a free idea for anyone to use, they are very easy to make, all you need is a compound slide to cut on an angle and 1" or 1.25" delrin stock
Best regards
I have 6 gibs left I have 20 more on order, but for now the price for the gibs is $13, instead of $12, sorry for the price increase, but I posted the original cost prior to getting a quote on them from my shop, this item is a total giveaway, I am not trying to make money on them, just want to break even. Please email me to customcuelathes@hotmail.com
My PM is always full, and I always have to delete all my PMs , which always results in someones order lost until they remind me of it later when they don' receive it.
Thanks
