Why are most people against Predator cue`s & Low Deflections shaft?

Is that bad? I have been playing pool for many years(from I was thirteen to twenty three or something, almost every day, and from thirty to dd).
I am not sure how to rack my self(against you in here at azbilliards), but I think I am good amateur pool player.

From eighteen to twenty three, I was playing with McDermott M53G Red Panther Pool Cue :p, I think it was OK cue at that time.

And have been playing with Predator P3 w/ Z2 Shaft since last year, and must say it is properly best cue I have ever tried.
I have tried some McDermott, Mucci`s and Fury(I have Fury DL-2 QR as well), and some other cheap cue`s(properly not compare with these "better cue`s" anyway).

Its mostly just the nostalgic crowd who would like pool to remain how it was in the 80's that are against low deflection shafts. Most of us realize that even pool has to evolve in one way or another.

I don't know that most people are "against" them, but I tried one and did not like it. I guess that's the basic standard.....try it.

I have been shooting since 1985 and a couple years ago I tried one that belonged to a friend. I didn't like it. Thats' all. I'm not "against" them in any way. Shoot with what you like.

I suppose I would get used to one if I had to but I would start by replacing the piece of crap shaft they come with. Did you know that it is cobbled together from a bunch of pieces of leftover shaft wood? I suspect it was actually an effort to find a way to use that wood.

There is one inherent essential flaw in them that cannot be removed though. None of them, not a single one, is in any way or by any stretch of the imagination.......my JOSS.

Evolve?

It hasn't evolved.

People are still looking for magic chalk/cues/cloth/shafts/etc. That's all it is.

An LD shaft would not change my game. However I'm going to buy one soon just for fun. We definitely evolved.

Why? Because they're idiots. I've learned to take a fairly hefty pinch of salt to everything I read on here - ESPECIALLY from the purists.

It's not everywhere, however. Here in the UK, EVERYBODY plays with a Pred - and with good reason. I've just bought a Blak off a mate, who's swallowed the purist BS and gone with a fancy custom. Everyone says this maker makes a "great player". It looks lovely but hits like shit, and my friend can't make a ball with it. He refuses to accept it's the cue, and non LD shaft. He's deluded.

I agree with you, people need the hope that certain products will help their game get to the next level but at the end of the day,its about putting in the time on the table and practice the shots they hate. Most of the time the average player is banging in shots that their good at, instead of doing drills. If your serious about your game, buy what is comfortable for you and stick with it!

I've bought 5 cues in the last year - played better with each one.

For me I love predator, and the older Predator shafts for my style of play are the best LD shafts ever made.Pure playability

I currently use a Predator Sneaky (with the wrap) and a 314-2 shaft.

My past cues have been Palmer's, a Balabushka, a Brunswick, a Cuetec and a couple of Mali"s - excluding the Cuetec the rest were all 30 to 45 year old cues.

So far, the Predator is easily the best cue I've played with.

You just loose that tone and feeling with a predator or any other LD shaft. I played with a predator for 10 years and loved it. I then started to venture into the custom cue world and never looked back. To each his own.

Hate them?

I dont like them, because i think you dont feel the shot as much with the LD shafts, but they work for the people they work for..., and any product that puts money in our game is a good product!

I'm using cue-maker designed low-deflection shafts for the first time and liking them. They seem to do what the ones I've tried did not do and that's why I haven't played with commercial LD shafts. I've gone on record before as hating predator shafts and still feel that way even after playing with a friend's 314-2 back in March. The 314-2 was much better than the original 314 but not enough to make me spend the money on them. I tried a 314 years ago for about 3 months on an almost daily basis and every time I hit the cue ball it felt like the shaft was going to shatter.

I have absolutely nothing against them in fact i have 3 predator shafts i use on my custom cue. There are just those that think they are experts on what a shaft is supposed to be and since they are all us open winners they must be right (not) just try the product and if you like it use it if you dont then dont or you could like some others, pretend to be an expert on all things pool and get a joss.

Mike Capone makes a great low deflection shaft that has the same feel as a regular shaft pretty much. It gives more feedback than a predator to me, and plays great.

I've sold a bunch of em but never played with one that I liked. I personally think they are over-rated. I do have an OB2 that fit's my Schon that plays ok for smooker, but lately I haven't been using it.
