Is there an official statement from Tweeten about the master chalk and changes of formula? I mean what is known as pre flag and post flag chalk. I know people say that the chalk formula changed before the wrap changed (at the time when the size of the groove changed), but can someone verify the changes.

If you use the search function here you will find plenty of discussion on this topic.

The gist of it is that Tweeten says their formula has not changed from when there was no flag on the label to now. They have stated that the flag was placed for patriotic reasons following 9-11, nothing to do with and change with the chalk composition.

There has been much speculation over whether or not lead was used in the old formulas and also whether some of the dyes changed over time possibly causing a difference in how well the chalk works.

And finally, some wondered if it wasn't simply a matter of the chalk's aging that made it work better, if in fact, it really does.

The right question to ask Tweeten is whether the formula of the chalk changed during pre flag period. Did it change when they changed the drilled groove into the chalk (corning) from quite deep to shallow?
 
The blue dyes never had lead pigments in their composition.
The green and Yellow dyes used to use lead based pigments.
There are alot of reasons for colour shade differences in a batch chalk.

I can't answer your request about verifying changes. The reason why I'm responding is that I have a box full of Master's chalk that I used to throw used pieces of chalk into. I've been doing that for at least 15 years. A while back there were some threads that hinted that the Pre-flag Master's chalk was better. I selected some pre-flag chalk from my collection and played with it for a whole session (about and hour and a half). Then the next day I played with some new Master's green chalk. I did not see any difference in performance between the two. Over the past 7 months, I've done that about 3 times and still haven't really noticed any difference. I did note that the blue Master's chalk seems to leave traces of chalk on my cue ball more than the green. That's about the only difference I noticed. I believe Tweeten when they state that the formula is the same and the only modification is the inclusion of an American flag on the wrap. That is my opinion. Others, perhaps more sophisticated in chalk performance, may note some difference but if they do, it's probably not significant. Good luck with the verification process. Wish someone would put it finally to bed.

Whether the masters formula has changed or is 100 years old doesn't really matter when there is already better chalk available. Now, someone needs to do some reverse engineering on kamui chalk, reproduce and sell it for $5...lol

Disclaimer: As we all know opinions are like Aholes and we all have one and it's just mine that kamui is the best stuff around, it's just too bad the price is ridonkculous.
 
not to overstate the obvious, but why doesnt someone just email mr. Nemecek and ask him. Skip is nice, he wont bite you.

Why not $1, thats still more than all the other stuff. $25 plus is beyond ridiculus,,,,,I don't even use their tips any more because of their price gouging,,,,,,,,

If you have read the 8 Billion threads on "Chalk", you should not have any more questions.

Its very simple. Just go try all different kinds of chalk, find what you like the best and stick with it.

That's what I did and I will stick with my Blue Diamond, thanks!!!
