I made my choice based on the idea of: if I was forced to only play one or two games forever, what would they be. In that case, my two favorites are banks and one pocket.

Honestly though, I love playing pool. I don't care what game it is. Each one has different skills and I love every one on the list. I would love to play 8 ball as much as 9 ball or straight pool. I usually try to leave it up to the opponent because I really have no opposition to any of them. I can't really vote on the poll because it would just add one to every game, lol.

I second that!

Yes I would..what are you,6 or somethin?:p John B.
1hole Is my second fav.

Onepocket is a great game for sure - one of my favorites. It is arguably one of the most creatively stimulating games. For instance, how often would you attempt a multi-rail bank shot playing short rack banks? Not too often relative to 1pkt, imo.

But then again, banks is a great game in its' own right. Utterly no slop, just pure pocketing and moving skill.

Then again, if it involves spheres and pockets, it's a good game imho...

One pocket is a truly fine game when you have the people with the right temperment. It is more like chess and requires patience and many esoteric skills: banks, kicks and solid defensive play.

Some of the "old" guys I play with can't quite make the transition.
Yep, 1 pocket's my favorite game to play and especially watch. It's more relaxing, because no other game has more un-critical shots, where a slight error doesn't mean that much.

My favorite games aren't in the list.

The first one is 7-ball (not the old ESPN version for TV). Seven ball is really nine ball with only seven balls. Ball in hand if the opponent doesn't make a ball. You're allowed to call only one safety per match. Balls are racked by hand in a seven-cluster at the foot spot. Alternate breaks, and ball in hand no matter what for the breaker after the snap. Really hones your running skills and nerves. Very fun.

The other is snooker, even if its on a pool table. I think this is better than straight pool. You can buy 2 1/4 snooker ball set for the price of a normal set. Boy is it worth it.

I like to play "anything" against a good opponent, as long as the shot clock doesn't exceed 20 to 30 seconds. If my opponent takes longer than that to figure out what to do, I start having homicidal thoughts!

I too like 7-ball. And, the rules variations you have are interesting. Though I have two questions:

1. If "Seven ball is really nine ball with only seven balls.", then are you saying that each person can make the 7-ball in any pocket just like 9-ball or do you still chose sides?

2. "... ball in hand no matter what for the breaker after the snap." If the breaker makes something, then BIH? If the breaker doesn't make something, then BIH for his opponent?

Edit:
3. "Balls are racked by hand in a seven-cluster at the foot spot." So, I can't use my special 7-ball rack or use a regular rack to rack 6 balls and then add the extra (or can't use one of the little circular racks). Has to be totally by hand?

One pocket is the best game for sure, if you do not know that then you better find out because the other guys are not waiting. :)

I based my answers on what I play on a weekly basis which are 14.1, 9 ball, 10 ball and 15 ball rotation. In the last week I've been knocking around short rack banks and that very well may be an add on.

ell I turned 60 on Saturday and it now takes me 20 seconds to get to the table. That is if I remember which table. LOL!

I usually only play 9 ball, 10 ball or short rack banks. I like the the energy those games provide. Playing on automatic is more relaxing than playing chess. The hours fly by when you're in the zone.

I think all day long at work. There's nothing left when I get to the table.

Best,
Mike

With one-pocket being so popular, it is amazing that there aren't more one-pocket tournaments.

It seems like one-hole is more of an action game. It's easy to match up, play partners, Captains, scotch, whatever suits your fancy!

Yep, I'm a one-pocket kind of gal today. Rotation games just don't thrill me anymore like they used to. :p

I'd be curious to see what the age ranges were for the different answers for each choice. I'd like to also see what area they live in, too.

The one pocket players are probably playing on big tables and the eight ballers are most likely on bar rags. Location and what's available to play on, including the crowd in these places will shape the results.

Best,
Mike

one pocket really that popular on this board? I have never played it, i think im going to have to try it.
There are many that would happily give you cheap lessons.

One-pocket is custom-built for gambling.

It's as though someone said a long time ago, "Ya know, what pool game can we create that is perfect for gambling and handicapping?"

And one-pocket was born...LOL
