"In the past six or seven years the European pool scene has just gotten so much stronger. You can probably come up with four or five teams that would be capable of beating any other team on the planet. It is hard enough to just make the team now."

Is this true?? Can someone name the 20 or 25 players that can beat the planet?

I think a similar comment can be made for an American or Asian team. I don't necessarily think he was suggesting European superiority, if that's where you're going. I think the point he was making was that Europe has improved immensely in recent years which is a sentiment everyone that's been around agrees with.

dude its over, the americans lost the mosconi cup, let it go, the best team won! there is no shame in that! be proud the mostly american game has taken off around the world. I watched a ping pong match on tv yesterday from vegas, grand prize was $100 000!!. You guys need a guy like vince macman << wrestling dude to do what he did for wrestling and do it for pool.

Raj Hundal? He is from London, no?

Agree. My point is the East would murder the west

Hey Champ,

I fully agree. But Europe has no chance vs the East

Cheers and Merry Christmas

Three to Five of these guys can compete with the top players from the East. They balance would get gutted.

No, it is not true at all. It might be true with Europe vs the USA, but it is certainly not true with Europe if they had to play Asia. I would say Asia might have 20-25 players that "could" beat anyone else on the planent when you look at the Philipines and Taiwan and how many world class pro's they have.

Ralf better come back down to Earth, Europe might be beating America in the race to pool greatness but Asia is stomping both quite soundly.

Honestly, I feel like the Mosconi Cup is like watching an All Star game or something. One team wins a few years in a row and people think it actually means something. These guys match up all the time and there's no telling who's going to win. There are at least 5 Americans who will ALWAYS be at least a coin-toss against any European and vice versa.

i think what ralf is saying is that europe is producing more good players these days and giving europe a pat on the back for doing so.

Errm, atm there is in no way 5 American's who are a coin toss against any European and it has not been that way in quite some time. SVB is a coin toss against the best Europe has to offer atm, and he is it. I am sorry but Corey is not there, Hatch is not there, Rodney is not there, Johnny is no longer there, Earl is REALLY not there. None of those guys are a coin toss against Ralf, none of them were a coin toss against Mika a couple years ago, none of them have been at Thorsten's level for years (most of them never have been there TBH), none of them are a coin toss against Nick Van Den Berg in long set tournament play or Chris Melling.

Can 5 guys in America upset a European in a match? For sure, but that does not make them a coin toss. They are underdogs every time they step into the ring against alot of Europeans unless their name happens to be Shane, who is the ONLY true coin toss America has against the top 5 Euro's.

I agree, the MC format is stupid are really doesn't prove anything. It's exciting but doesn't prove who the best team or player really is. They should do one race to (200) 10 ball scotch match over 4 days. Change the shooting order ever 10 games.

Exactly. Just looking at the Mosconi results alone, the Americans won 10 of the first 12 contests. Their most impressive win coming in 2001 (12-1). In the past 5 years, Europe has won 4. For any player like Souquet who has been involved in the Mosconi Cup since the beginning, this must be a nice turn-around.

I disagree with this. Granted any race to six can be a fluke. But if I win 11/18 sets well then I know who is the better player.

there is a lot of pressure in a race to 6 at the level in that kind of tournament...maybe a race to six is the best way to find out who really are the better players? If im on a team and representing my country, i know i wouldn't be all smiles if i had to play darren or ralf heads up in a race to six, massive pressure!!
