It didn't work! Final score 7-1 Orcullo! Efren, Busta, Alex and the few are the only ones that can come here... The Philippines has hundreds that play in their speed! Ask SVB himself he'll tell you, he goes there all the time...
 
Congratulations to Francisco Bustamante is certainly in order. He's a great player, a Hall of famer, and deserves every accolade he has received. However, I believe you go too far when you say the Philipinos are not wanted. Yes, we Americans root for Americans, just like Phillipinos root for Phillipinos and Europeans root for Europeans. There is nothing wrong with that. Let's just recognize great pool and players. We don't need to make statements that simply aren't true. The last time Efren Reyes was at the Derby, I'd say he drew the biggest crowd, and it wasn't because of his nationality.
 
By the way, according to reports, the last time SVB was in the Phillipines, he beat everybody there.

Mostly, I think, all American pool players congratulate Busty on his win, albeit silently. Naturally we would have loved for Shane to win because then we feel as Americans, somehow we played a part and, therefore, are winners ourselves. Due to his unmatched charisma, it's just a natural that if it had been Shane and Efren matched up and Efren had won American players would have been more enthusiastic in their praise of Efren. Most great players will soon be forgotten after their playing careers but not Efren!
 
two of my favorite players. Shane is no.1 with me. like his swagger. I have watched Busti for years.He is tough. This match I will buy and get me a TAR shirt too.

Apparently not in the pool scene or new to the scene.....

Filipinos have always been highly regarded for their pool prowess and its a well known fact that the best player that has ever lived if Filipino.. (hint provided if needed) :)

This is just ignorant and stupid..

I am glad Busty won.. just shows he still has what it takes.. I hate to see pool talent fade away with age...

Really? Did it ever occur to you that the reason nobody was cheering for the Filipino at DCC is because it is in the US and most, if not all, of the spectators are American? That was a real knucklehead post.:confused:

Simply not true. Pool players cheer on pool players regardless of nationality. Of course people have their favorites and will root for them.

My favorite players are Orcullo and Lee Van and I'm an American. What do you say to that??

Congrats to Busty! In my opinion that table plays exceptionally hard and he played better on it for the cheese on day 3. They are both great players and SVB can beat him........Busty just adjusted better to the table on day 3. Neither one of them had a great break working and it came down to pocketing balls and good safes. It doesn't matter what country these guys are from. World class pool is something I enjoy.......No matter who wins!

I am pretty sure majority of the American players recognize Bustamante's talent at the table and also among many other Filipinos.. but his humility that he brings with him also what makes him a great player and hopefully his fans will follow as well... ;)

He's a great player, and a great person, and I wish there were more players like him in the US. He beat Shans because he got the table speed down and the pocket speed perfect. Johnnyt
