How long did it take

to damage a new quality shaft. An OB or Predator. I let someone try mine out and bingo. Nicked it real good. My fault for offering a trial run. It was less than an hour old. So....when you get a good scratch do you live with it, sand lightly, have it professionally refinished, toss the sucker? Nothing ever happens to a POS butt or shaft. Ain't fair.

gouge

get a good quality wood filler, I'm talking professional restorer stuff, not the stuff at lowe's. Fill in the gouge, let it completely cure, then sand and reseal if needed. Good as new.

ummm ...that guy just bought a damaged shaft and your new one should be on it's way tomorrow ....

that's the way it should be.

When the OB Classic shaft first hit the market I called Royce and ordered one in 30" length. The day I got it I took it to league that evening (BCA) and one of my teammates knocked my cue out of the Q-Claw not once but TWICE before I had an hour of play on it. The second incident left a fairly deep ding in it but luckily it was about 5 inches from the joint and not where it makes contact with my bridge hand on my stroke. I filled it up with an epoxy/sawdust mixture, sanded it down smooth on my lathe and the ding now looks like a small, circular sugar mark.

Needless to say I was not too pleased with my teammate that night!!!

10 years and running

After about 10 years of not being particularly careful with them, my two Cuetec fiberglass-coated shafts remain pristine:grin:. No dents, no chips. That's why I got them.

I was playing with CueTecs since 1998. They are in excellent condition. They are the only cues I would bring into a public place (for obvious reasons).
I use my custom cues at home. I wanted to try an OB shaft. Another pool playing friend of mine was thinking of buying one so I let him shoot with my new OB. Look in the dictionary under SCHMUCK and you'll see my picture.
My new position is... Take my guns, my wife, my pets, my car.....but my new Cue stuff........when you pry it from my cold stubby arthritic fingers.

Unless he was stupid drunk, I'd have a hard time believing someone could be that clumsy. You know him better than I do though.

Can you steam it out? I have done this before on dents and small gouges. Taking it to a professional would probably be your safest solution.

Jason,

He wasn't a stupid drunk. He may have been a bit clumsy, but here's what I think happened. I had ordered a custom butt from Dave Jacoby and when he called to said it was being shipped soon, I ordered the shaft from Royce so they would arrive close to the same time. In the meantime, my teammate had bought one of the Dale Perry "1 of 1" cues off of e-bay. The first night he brought it up to league he let me hit some with it and I told him it had a nice hit to it but said little else as it was a decent cue, but nothing to salivate over. Then a couple of weeks later, when my cue and shaft came and I brought it up to league, he "mysteriously" did something he had never done before, and that was to knock my cue off of the Q-claw not once, but TWICE in a space of about 45 minutes. I suspected he may have been a bit jealous of it or something as I happened to be looking right at him the second time it happened and it was "peculiar" the way it happened, to say the least.

I no longer shoot pool with this fellow anymore.

I'm going to have it professionally done. Fortunately it is an OB Pro Classic. I bought it just to try but will most likely not play with it. I like the thickness of the OB Classic and will use that as a daily player.
