Computer Virus/Worm from AzBilliards' Members' Personal E-mail Accounts

I'm not sure how this happened, but by BF's e-mail account has received three e-mails from AzBilliards' members that are infected with a worm or virus.

I post this thread as an alert to those who may not realize they have a computer virus. I think it might be called a "worm." What happens is it goes into your e-mail account address book and sends an infected e-mail to everybody in your address book.

If you get one of these, don't click the link. I recognized it right away, so nothing happened to our computer, but others may not be as lucky.

In sum, if you receive an e-mail from an AzBilliards friend, be careful if there is only a link to click, no message, and a "no subject" in the Subject line. This could be a virus/worm that could infect your entire computer, so beware!

T.T.T. in case others missed it.

Thanks, Fenwick!:)

What's sad is that I do not know if these AzB-ers even know they have a virus/worm. One of them is a regular AzB-er who posts here just about every single day.:sorry:

I should contact him privately, but I don't want to send him an e-mail. I may contact him via PM on the forum.

Good idea. One way this happens is mass emails. People just pass things on without deleting addresses.
I send everyting BCC and have a pretty good protection set up.

This is a first. I was doing a search on the forum, and this warning popped up. I have never seen this before, and I've done many searches on AzBilliards. What is Falcon Friday?

I googled Falconfirday.com and Norton labeled it as a site with 'Dangerous Downloads'.

Whitewolf, why on earth do you have a Boston Red Sox avatar? Orioles all the way, baby!

I'm not sure what Falcon Friday is, but I don't understand why a warning comes up when I do a search on AzBilliards. What does that mean?

Believe it or not, I like the Orioles too. Back when I was a kid Ted Williams was the best batter on the planet so I picked the Red Sox as my team. One thing we both must have in common --> hating the Yankees.

I was there at Camden Yards when Cal broke the record. I have a lot of souvenirs and collectibles. ;)

Of course, they won't be worth much until after I'm gone. Cal signed a lot of things for the fans. He made Orioles fun!

The strange thing about those Yankees, when you go to Baltimore to see the home team play at Camden Yards, there's more Yankees in the stands than Orioles fans. It's kind of scary when you root for the home team, if you know what I mean. :D

One can right click on a web page and choose 'View Source'. You have to be good at HTML and other stuff to interpret what the code is. You might try it and look for anything suspicious - like redirecting you to another web site or poping up a message.

I have never gotten this message (just went to do a search like you did and nothing popped up). I can only guess that it is your computer's fault, not AZ Billiard's webpage (when can get infected very easily). There is another thread on this - could be related to your browser. I use Internet Explorer.

I've never seen it before in my life. I am on a laptop right now, using Google Chrome. I use this laptop almost 24/7/365, because I'm always working. I have never seen that warning before, until today.

Strange, to say the least! :embarrassed2:

I just went through some of the web page script and found this:

<td class="smallfont" style="font-size:10pt; padding-top:1px" colspan="3"><a href="/showthread.php?t=265490"><img class="inlineimg" src="images/techtwo/misc/navbits_finallink_ltr.gif" alt="Reload this Page" border="0" /></a> <strong>

It could be that the AZ Billiards web site is infected. I asked Mike Howerton to check this out in a previous thread.

Maybe your anti-virus program is NOT blocking this message.

I will run a scan right now. I have never seen this before. Tell me how you found that script. What did you right-click?

I just ran a scan and it didn't find anything on this computer and no complaints about the website either....

I'm running AVG antivirus

Brian :)

Thanks, Brian. I'm using Trend.

I just did a right-click on View Page Info and saw this. I don't understand what that means, November 2011. I am going to delete my temporary files and cookies right now and see what happens.

Scans do NOT detect 'redirections' on web pages, or on some of pictures embedded with code that you may receive in an email. This is one of the easiest methods hackers use because most web site owners do not put enough effort into protecting their web pages.

The only way to detect bad we sites is to use a 'site advisor', such as my Norton has, and that is only if there are enough complaints from individuals. Then there is a 'maintained' website that Norton and others tap into to determine if a web sites are safe or not - note that this is never real-time.

So, just because you found nothing with a scan doesn't mean that the AZ website is not infected.

You saw the code that I, a complete novice, found on the web page. This is so obvious because it is in BLACK AND WHITE.

Personally, I think AZ needs to look into the situation, but since they never listen to me........

You know, I did not see the pool table. I was kind of not into pool during this time of my life, so I may have missed it if they brought it out on the field.

I just remember him running the perimeter of the field. We all rushed down to the rail. We were three rows from catcher's plate. When Cal ran around the field, my brother, who was sporting a purple shirt, was on the CNN newswire. I couldn't see above the people who were in front of me. It was a real celebration that day. I paid $800 each for two tickets. We didn't even think about going until the morning of. I called one of those ticket agencies and paid top dollar. It is a happy memory, so I guess it was worth it! :)
