Hi people!
i want to say few words to my coach who goes here by the nick Ratta and i think it is good idea to post this public, I think he deserves it.
When you started to give me some useful hints last summer I was really happy as you helped me with some areas of my game i was struggling with - all that through internet chat and youtube vid analysis. But when I asked you about full-time cooperation at the end of december 2011 and you accepted i really didnt see what was coming my way. During first week you found BIG flaw in my fundamentals and you were able to give me pointers how to do things right, also you changed my stance so i would have more space for my stroke, you tought me the importance of proper pre-shooting routine which ended my struggle with aiming virtually overnight. With my physical game getting fixed you started to work on "little" tougher nut - my mental game. Some things improved quickly, some did not. But you were persistent and in the end you found the way (with the help of another great coach David Sapolis) how to make me believe in myself. Ok, now i am believer, I will play 4 finals at national championships (8b,9b,10b,14-1), I will participate at European championship 2 weeks from now, I ran 142 in 14-1 in team competition on Saturday breaking my personal best in competiton by 59 balls.

So I just want to say THANK YOU for being my coach AND my friend.. :thumbup2:

Nice !!!

Congratulations on your new high run,and stronger mental game.
I enjoy seeing people who work hard at improving reap the rewards.
Also congratulations to your coach job well done.

Well Marek,

you bring with you, what is necessary- the willing to increase and working hard.
I gives me a lot to work guys like you. It s a pleasure to be able to help a great guy like you. I m impressed how you pulled the necessary things out of all the input :-)
To see, if a student increases, especially if it s about some mental issues like psr and self-believement-that is just satisfying.
Thanks for believing in me :)

your friend (+coach)

How do you coach self-belief?

Awesome story! Congrats to both student and coach!

How much does coaching like this cost?

There s a bit more than physical stuff- There are for sure tons of good shotmakers. But to be really sucessful, you need to master also the mental game. I could throw in here some sayings or phrases-but that wouldn t be seriousl. I talked for sure a lot with Marek-that s a fact. Each human is different- first you need to get a bulletproofed Pre-Shot-Routine- to reach a point where you will not have to think about your physical abilities anymore (stroke, stance, etc etc)- Here Marek had just some minor issues-and he fixed them really fast.
And of course selfbelief and confidence comes through practice- but there are often little issues, don t believing in yourself, or just loosing all if oyu re under pressure. And here you have to work on the mental-game-mastery.
This is nothin which works in the same way for every single person. You have to know the person, know his thoughts, his goals and so on.
I m far away from a psychologist-but i have the opinion, that the mental game is by far the most underestimated thing.
To find the key for each person is the difficult thing :-)
Auto-Suggestion, Autogene Training, listening to some files outthere- and learning how the brain works- these are a few things that comes with the mental part in sports (not just billiards)

This way i also have to say a big thank you to David Sapolis- a great friend. And he is a guy i learnt a lot from. And meanwhile kind of a Mentor, too. He sees some things very similar like i do about coaching, practicing, giving lessons- but he s a walking enzyclopedia and has always an answer if i m searching for something.
Thx for your help David- even if you jumped out of the forums- you deserve a lot of "thanks" from dozens of guys.

Marek- finally YOU made all those balls -and i appreciate your *THX* of course. And if i pushed you, now matter how, towards your now reached goals im enjoying this a lot!

Ratta is definitely one of the "good" guys on here!

thank you very much Neil - enjoy your posting a lot :-)
and also *hats off* to you- always a pleasure to read your thoughts!

Marek, December 2011 you say? So you must have become even better since you walked past me in the losers bracket of Brno Open last year? ;) Ingo (Ratta) is a great asset to the forum, especially 14.1 section where he flocks often. And from what I have seen, he is a great mentor. Thanks once again for sharing your thoughts for the better game!

большо́е спаси́бо!

Excellent testimonial from a very good player.

Way to go, both of you.

Thumbs Up

Congrats Marek, that is some playing. That type of playing will lead you to great things down the road if your heart stays with it, on the table & off. With a coach like Ratta, I know you can't go wrong.
Best of Luck
Mike

Ingo always posts well thought out ideas and is spot on with his observations. I enjoy his comments and look forward to reading them. :wink2:

Best,
Mike

I can vouch for Ratta as well...Due to a number of non-pool related cirqumstances we stopped working together a while back which was unfortunate.
However, after my move is complete and I am comfortable in my new house and find a little time again for pool....we WILL pick it up again! Promise my friend!

Kimmo my friend :-)

feels good to hear again from you- hope your family is fine and your move will be *perfect*!

I m really looking forward to it Kimmo,

take care,

Ingo

Thanks for posting this it shows the value of hard work and sharing knowledge. I always read Ratta's post when I see them and the knowledge he shares is excellent. Great guy to have in your corner.

Myself I am glad to call David Sapolis my friend and I also miss his posts here on the forums but I know it is hard to put up with the haters when you put yourself out there like he does and sometimes it is just not worth the aggravation. David has given alot to others and now he needs the support and prayers of others as he battles with his health issues. My thoughts and prayers go out to you Blackjack, you are one of the good guys.

Marek, congrats on your run and good luck in the upcoming competition.
