Don't like my opponents wearing headphones!

This reminds when i first started playing in the league about 2 years ago. I had my bluetooth on my ear. Not talking to anyone just there to be there. A old foggy told me to take them off. I refused to take it off. His reasoning is that i was getting instructions from someone outside. This was there home bar. So i tried to reason with him. Told him so i sneaked in here put up cameras and wasted $900 in equipment so i can win a APA game. My team captain pleaded with me just to take them off. I still refused as i saw no harm in having my bluetooth on. Calls made to the LO etc etc. Finally out of respect for my team captain i just took them off.

You should have just taken it off without all the commotion instead of being a douche about it.

Not the way i see it was a matter of principal...His argument didnt have a ground to stand on....Sorry.. No one had a problem with it not the person i was playing...Only he did...I tend to stand my ground if i think im right unless proven wrong...

When I actually play, ie not practice play, I really have no interest in socializing with you.... I don't care to hear your banter or anything else for that matter... I am and always will be playing the table... I am pretty sure the table doesn't care if I wear my headphones and since it's my opponent I see no merit in some of these opinions...

Most every room has a jukebox or a looped soundtrack they play... I prefer my own music.. If they disallow headphones I will be wearing the flesh colored ear plugs for the same reasons....

This is in no way a show of lack of respect for the other player but an attempt on my part to play my best pol by eliminating or turning down the volume of distractions....

IF the room is old school and quiet and you are one of the few who can manage to keep quiet when it's not your turn I would likely need neither the headphones or earplugs and would leave them in my case....

When's the last time one of you walked into a room that was as quiet as a church?? Heck they even played crappy music in the tourney room at DCC on several of the days......

I learned in a room with blaring music and in my younger days I could fade it..... Not so much today... If you still can fade it, great for you.. my headphones and earplugs are just evening up the playing field.....

I agree, I came to play pool talk is cheap I'll talk till the cows come home before and after a match. Its. Not hard to say nice shot when I see the other guy make a good shot

Some advice.......

If you see a clear double hit. Immediately get out of your chair, pick up the cueball and hold it in your hand.

Now they cannot continue shooting. If the ref is called over, explain how the double hit works, and most often you will be awarded ball in hand.

Do not let them continue shooting.

This doesn't have much to do with headphones really.

Two basketball players dive for a loose ball out of bounds. Each player points a finger at the other.

Call it yourself!

If you try that maneuver your opponent would be awarded ball in hand, if you did it again you would probably be barred from the tournament, it was a shot that you would not call a ref over for since the cue ball was approx. 5-6 inches from the object ball, just so you know for the future a discrepancy without a ref goes to the shooter! Maybe you should learn the rules before posting advice....or grabbing whitey during your opponents turn....well I had a good laugh to wake up to this morning anyways...ty....I'm starting to love this site!!

I think the central question is whether timely verbal communication is important, or not?

I just started playing with headphones at my local room. It definitely helps my game b/c most of the time the jukebox is not going so I can hear every little conversation going on at other tables which makes me not focus on my game as good. Also, one guy I gamble with regularly tries sharking techniques commenting on every shot basically so it tunes him out.
