cleaning shafts...

I have a question about the best way to clean shafts..

i was reading some of peoples techniques.. but i thought i would ask myself..

anyways.. the shafts arent really dirty.. had new tips put on the cue a few years ago, used them for alittle while but mostly used a shaft from a different cue as it was one i really liked...

but mostly the shafts just sit in my case.. and for the last two years, i havent played with that particular cue or the shafts either...

and if you look at the shafts, they have black swirls on them.. i am assuming its something from light playing combined with the inside of the cue case and whatever the cuemake or repairman used on it when he cleaned them?

i was thinking about using the lightly damp cloth method (i really love to do this when you have the old brown papertowels cause it really makes it feel smooth) but i am just looking to get the swirls off.. as i think i may sell this cue.. but i just want to make it more presentable...

let me know what everyone thinks.. i value all opinions.. :)

Hi,

Magic eraser with isopropyl alcohol, staged sandpaper grits after cleaning and before burnishing and resealing gets them like new.

The are 6 million stories in the Naked City, this had been one of them.

I clean my shaft once a week and I have found that just the magic eraser and a good burnishing works fine for me.
Now if you let it go for awhile and it's really bad your method is probably the way to go.
 
thanks for all the replies everyone.. i tried one shaft with the magic eraser.. it worked pretty good.. now i just need to burnish the shaft again..

At once a week, sanding would be bad. Clean and burnishing is better because you are keeping it clean all of the time.
