✯✯SHARKS Web Series Episode Four✯✯

It seems like SHARKS was filmed as it was shot, with little to no editing. These are pool players and no one wants to spend all day acting out the same scene.

Its great to see people finally coming together to promote a pool concept.

I'd volunteer some computer processing time to modify the end of cut scenes with fades, or filter effects to emphasize the story telling elements.

Thanks

Jim,

I've been hesitant to say anything for fear of sounding negative, but I'm going to offer constructive criticism.

As others have said before, it seems it takes too long for the actors to say things. Can that be sped up some how? I really do understand that the actors are trying to show emotion and such, but it I really think switching from each actor and/or their parts could be sped up somehow.

I really liked how we finally got to a plot in this episode! It's getting exciting!

FWIW, the intro and credits I skip through every time.

I think the actors are doing the best they can - given that they aren't actors. Kudos to everyone involved - camera peeps, sound, actors, directors, writers, etc.

I was in a local pool movie and everyone bashed it, also. It's a tough line of work and a labor of love.

I wish you and the actors the best and look forward to more interweaving plots and faster "talk" so to speak.

Thank you.

We need plots within subplots - and then have the subplots meet in a real action scene. Good novels do this - switching from subplot to subplot - it keeps everything so interesting. I believe the last novel from Dune had around 4 subplots going at once, finally all meeting in the end - freaking great.

Subplots keep the watchers from getting bored. The writing could be a whole lot better. If the actors had something to say besides platitudes, then it has a lot of potential.

Thought this was the best episode so far.

Acting still isn't great of course. The plot on the second half of this episode was its strong point and was pretty good. The first half though was weak. I find myself not caring about the character's lovelifes and the acting for those parts is pretty bad.

The acting during the pool parts and hustle that's going on is more believable though. Maybe as its more natural them.

This second half of this episode was decent though. Also the all one shot of the runout in the beginning was a nice touch during the opening credits. If you are going to have a long intro it was good to have that to watch during it.

In between episodes Jim could have used, blooper footage as teasers.

maybe

I've been looking over some of the tape. Maybe a blooper reel would be fun. But I'm having a hard enough time doing these on time. Number five should be on AZ by Monday, the way it's going.

Also, I talked to John Painz a few days ago. He's the director of 8for Vegas. It was interesting. We are doing these about ten blocks from each other.

Are you interested in help?

The blooper real doesn't have to be video quality.

It can just be some stills, funny captions, and (random) music. Send me some pics and I'll make an demo.

I hadn't known about 8 for Vegas until I saw this thread but I watched the first few episodes and it's really well done - natural, spontaneous, funny and well acted (especially the 30-something blonde). You can definitely see the influence of, say, The Office, but that's a good thing. A shout-out to whoever made it.

Hey, thanks Taco, I appreciate the kind words. I'm sure Nicole, who would throttle you for calling her middle-aged, will take kindly to my small edit of calling her a 30-something blonde ;)

We have a thread on AZ if you're remotely interested:

Got to meet Jim last week. It was fun trading production horror stories, and a pleasure to meet him! Funny that we're all doing this in one city.

Note the edit. Wouldn't want Nicole throttling me, unless there were extenuating circumstances.

"Don't 'sir' me...unless we're in bed" is a really great line.

You've got the chops. Keep at it.

Ha! That was a fun day. That was our third take, I believe, and it just... came out of my mouth. No pun intended.

I am looking forward to SHARKS - part #5.

It took a couple of episodes to get my interest going - but I appreciate any attempts to bring more interest into watching (or playing) pool.

The themes are starting to get more obvious and I want to congratulate Jim and crew for the job they are doing.

Whatever, your opinion of the show, I think that Jim has done a great job of making it look professional on zero budget.
Good work Jim and the crew.

P.S. Well done to the "8 for Vegas" team as well.
