What is the one weak point in your pool game?

Playing 8 or 9 ball is frustrating for me. I think it is largely due to shot selection/pattern play. One hole any ball can be made and you can get by if you miss, providing the cue ball is safe. Not so in 8 ball or 9 ball.

Stamina. I'm a killer for about 4 sets then let up for some reason. I can't tell you how many times I have had people stuck real bad and let them get even at 4:00 am.

Thats called having a JOB lol. I think all of us working stiffs have that problem. Happens to me quite a bit too, and I usually start slow lol. Hard to beat the guys that can sleep until 5pm or the ones that have a bunch of handy bathroom helpers to keep them fresh.

Good point. I never really thought about it like that. Working seriously hurts your pool game. The other thing is that, even if I put a time limit on the match I end up feeling guilty and just keep playing not wanting to quit winner. Sometimes I'm my own worst enemy.

Hey Wolf Biscuit,
Try to put a set limit on the match! If you set it at 3 sets whenever the 3 sets are up you quit no matter what! Same with 5 sets ETC! Playing all night to break even or feel sorry for having to quit because you have to go to work is not good. Thanks for your input.

Solid advice. Thanks.

Thanks for your kind words Lock N Load. I actually enjoy the practice. Im just stubborn like that. I refuse to let me beat me, and so I keep at it. I am my own worst enemy sometimes, but sometimes, it acutally works out for the best to be that way

Alcohol is my problem. I get drunk and go right th f off.

Last night i spend 4 sets getting up 300.00 and then the next thing I know Im playing scotch doubles for 50.00 a game with the worst player in the bar as my partner. The bad part is I was backing him too.

but but but... those are the best nights if you can catch a gear... your opponents won't quit when they think there is no way you can continue to jump, kick and shoot your way out of the holes your partner puts you in....

I used to have a good friend that would play this angle with me....He'd leave me tough all night long but the toughs he left were banks kicks or recovery shots he knew I liked my chances on... we sent several guys to the ATM on multiple trips because they just figured I couldn't outrun his bad play.......

Self Assessment

There are two things I consider weak in my game.
Breaking, I am inconsistent at controlling the cueball and in hitting the head ball were I want. I could use more power as well.
Playing safeties is a also weak for me. Too many times I leave an open shot for that no good, lowdown, SOB opponent..

Hey Cue,
I would hate to play you if that is the way you feel about your opponent!!! I thank you for your input! Work on your breaks hard and steady! Shoot your safeties a little softer!

My problem is that I just love to hit the balls so much! I get to the point where I don't want to play anyone because I can't stand it when they're at the table! Makes me want to play only the weak players so I can have more time at the table.

I agree with Fran too! I get really uptight when their are jerks around. I'm also very picky who I play because if I don't like the person, I won't play with him/her. This is probably not good for my over all game.

I'm retired now and I'm even worse now than I used to be when it comes to playing others. I do enjoy a good game of 1 hole with a player that is good as long as they have good manners. Luckily for me, I have found some good players to play 1 hole with.

Hey RickW,
Get yourself together! Slow down a little. You will be OK!

Speed control, i either over hit or under hit, i am a good shot maker but because of my terrible speed control i find myself getting more and more out of position by each shot i make..which is probably why im a good shotmaker because i always have to hit harder shots than i need too.

I dont know how to fix this

Slow your roll and rock speed down and keep it down no matter what until you get use to doing it!!! Shoot every shot real slow and easy. Stay down on your shot until the ball falls in the pocket, then you can get up off of the shot! Thank you for your input.

Even though I had already been an established local player winning many tournaments in the small pond, I had one area that I really needed to do something to improve to be more competitive in the bigger area not just state wide but in any area. So, I did. And it helped. A lot.

Freddie <~~~ but I can't say what it was in the Main Forum

I applaud you sir. I believe if someone wants to improve, they have to understand their weaknesses, develop a strategy to improve, and not be afraid to risk failure. It's easy to fall into a trap of being a hero in your own mind while beating the local bangers.

about a year ago, I started a Thread about playing monsters. That Thread took on a life of its own. I'm still playing the strongest players I can. In fact, last weekend I played one pocket against Joey Gray, you know the guy who took second in one pocket at the Derby.

Keep pushing yourself and don't sweat the haters.

Steven

I don't really know if I consider my biggest problem with the game a weakness or just a perspective problem, but I seem to have to work at keeping a balance between over analyzing in playing versus keeping the game simple. For me it seems awfully easy to read way to much in to things, and at times my game definitely suffers from it.

Good post, into this thread. Thanks for your input. I know Joey Gray, he came to Buffalo's Billiards The worlds pool hall in Metairie, Louisiana a while back. He played Eddie Brown.
