Calling Bob Jewett or Dr. Dave. Jumping the cueball off a rail.

Hi Jeff,
Yes that's it. Here is the direct link: http://youtu.be/QeJ3p5kRqrM?t=1m29s

I tried this some more, and the trick to keeping the cue ball on the table is to start nearer the cushion than I was trying. I managed to go straight into the side pocket once.
Tom and I have a shot like this on VEPS-V:
628. glancing jump kick off rail to clear obstacle balls (18:05)
I think Tom was able to get it in about 5 tries. I remember doing it also, but it took me many more tries (about 10-15). Top-reverse English definitely made the shot easier by helping curve the CB back to the rail. As you point out, it also helped having the CB close to the rail.

Regards,
Dave

Yep that's the shot, thanks to Jeff for the video. Yes closer to the rail and less speed. I've made it where the c/b lands near the side pocket, then hooks back into the rail to make a ball in the corner. It is speed sensitive. The shots been around for years but I don't recall seeing it in a video.

Works best with high left from that side of the table about 45 degree cue angle. once you do it a few times it is not a hard shot, start by shooting easy and work up a little at a time in speed, the speed is most important or the cue ball will be flying off the table just by shooting a little too hard. have not tried it but should be able to get the object ball to fly straight down the table by jumping the cb into the object than ob into rail, alot tougher shot. Jeff

If you strike down on the cue ball and play below center it will shorten off the rail with a firm hit. The height and how much the cb shortens depends on the speed and angle. A pretty firm hit (spf speed 6) will shorten the rebound angle about approx. 1 diamond on long rail to long rail kicks. A full ball jump can be done and stay on the table but it's very tough because that is the boundary for this shot.

Here is one for you guys, What shot can you set up the same every time and make the object ball go in all 6 pockets just by using speed?

Bob, this may be what you are looking for jeff's pool shots m4v or do a search on you tube jeff olney this was the first one i did but check out the 5 others too. Jeff O

There are alot of cool pool shots, this one would really go in the left side two ways. roll it up for a one rail. Jeff

Well are you going to show us?

Here you go, the 5 ball will bank 2 rails in the left side, not straight in. All shots are banks all 6 pockets. it's all in the compression speed. Try it out sometime. Jeff.
