Why are their so many Haters, in a pool forum?

I think a big portion of the hating is that there is no way to tell tone in the threads... Case in point I made what I thought was a funny comment in a thread earlier and was jumped on by someone who took offense and took a condescending attitude....

Option 1..... I just ignore them since I have seen enough posts from this poster to know that he/she believes his opinion to be fact

Option 2.... I get myself even further down the positive poster ladder and explain the truth for those people who will be reading the thread and think that he must have been right because no one bothered a rebuttal with the truth.....

I come to the forum to learn and to teach... PJ and I locked horns on several occasions until we finally got to the point where he understood what I was trying to say because ideas don't always translate into written words in a short post....

I admit that I play the Troll spotting game as far as Justnum and Pocketpoint versionX is concerned... But even in those threads it is always to point out the truths as I have learned and seen them....

On several final outcome of a heated discussion has ended up with me having a new way to look at something and therefore getting to learn something.......

Let the haters hate.... Hate em back when warranted..... Bicker and argue... Just don't be the first one to make it personal..... The more personal it gets the higher the ladder it climbs....

Discussion
Disagreement
Argument
Fight
Mudslinging Flame war

And the issue is that once you have escalated beyond discussion in any thread then the spark remains to do so in any following threads where you run into the same forum member.....

Maybe it's time for me to realize that as well..... Maybe tomorrow we'll have a nicer and gentler... The Renfro..... Just don't bet on it if you are already on my list LOL

I don't think the issue is haters, I think the issue is distance.

When people are face to face there are certain boundaries that those of us who are not bullies or social psychopaths will not cross. There are further lines that those who do not like physical confrontation will not cross.

On a website none of these exist.

There is a great illustration of that on this thread. For example the fellow with the Chinese cases if he were in a shop, I am sure would treat a customer with a complaint civilly and be attentive to their needs. Similarly am sure the customer would make the complaint in a more civil manner and both parties would reach resolution.

Instead of which, the lack of physical proximity leads to accusations of lies, insults, defences etc etc until the point is reached where neither is likely to give any ground and resolution is impossible, or at the very least improbable.

Just as completely incompatible people can meet on the Internet, nice people can also fall out.

john...

No, it is used when you exhibit the behavior of a troll. Which is when you post to antagonize others. You do this often.

why in the world would you post the above?

especially in this thread topic? and a good one for all of us...

sometimes it is time for you to shut up. this is one of those occasions

lnl, great thread...

if i may:
there is a way to express your thoughts [even contrary thoughts] and at the same time make it useful to the party you are expressing it to [regardless if right or wrong]

it took me almost a lifetime to learn that [with a lot of hardships], so i hope that others will learn faster than i have been able too

on the other hand, i have to say i have met so many folks here, young and old who have the ability to express themselves so well and with kindness

and on the whole i think we have a great place to express ourselves and most do an exceedingly good job at it [a credit to all]

and with that said, i also believe that Mr. Wilson has helped guide us to achieve that...

as i said, my $0.02, not to argue

all the best,
smokey

You are smoking with those good words of wisdom. I thank you very much for that input. And you expressed yourself while doing it with the good words!

As the cowboy said about the Indian telegrapher:

"Truer words were never smoken."

I agree with Smokey

Because Pool Players Are Mean

I was at the Derby sitting in the bleachers at the TV table when I over heard a lady next to me say "This is the meanest group of people I've ever been around." She was obviously not a pool player at a tournament where most of the people watching are pool players. I have often thought about what she said. I have met a lot of nice people over the years that are associated with pool, but I can understand why someone might get that impression. Just something to think about, maybe?

Hello Bob,
Do you really live in a glass house? Thanks for your kind words about my thread. The compliment is most appreciated as well! Thanks again.
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

I have an acquaintance that collected thrones as a hobby. In fact, he also lived in a glass house. His entire second floor was devoted as a display area
for his throne collection. One day he brought home another throne and put it on the second floor. Apparently it was the straw that broke the camels back the the entire second floor came crashing down and destroyed his glass house.

The moral of the story is: People that live in glass houses, shouldn't stow thrones.

I just closed my eyes and slowly shook my head from side to side.

A friend of mine had gulf front property. Only bad thing was the shore birds crapping everywhere. He got tired of it and started throwing rocks at them. He got pretty good chunking rocks and before he was done he had left no tern unstoned.

To much knowledge of the game given for free!!
Some of the info given on here would cost alot of $.

Back in the day when pool was great if u played all the time and earned your dues u would learn the game or lose all your $$.
U could also hang around or play with known good players or hustlers and learn from them.

Now? Click a button!!!

..but I hafta confess....I laughed my head off...:killingme:

Everyone has the same option, read a post or thread or not read a post or thread!!! Very simple. If you do not like what a person writes in the forum, pass it by. I would really like to know why people cannot be nice and kind? I thank you for your input. I am speaking of pool players, so it is pool related.

You haven't been to a political forum then...

Hello Craig,
No I have not been to one of those forums! And I try to stay clear of them as well!!! Thanks for your input. How is it up there in your town? I have not been there in a few years.
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

Hu, up here in Northern Canada, there was a couple of Inuit seal hunters that went out one day. As the day wore on, the temperature was dropping steady and the two hunters were getting cold. They decided to light a small fire in their boat to keep warm. They did just that, the boat caught fire and sunk, with them in it.

Which just goes to show you that you can't have your Kayak and Heat it too.
