This topic that has been discussed multiple times before, as I see it here it is in a nutshell.

Anything, whether it is clothing, language, music, or housekeeping that makes a first time visitor to a pool room uncomfortable is contributing to the demise of our game.

Maybe the "church picnic" standard is the easiest to apply.

If we want rooms to stay open it only makes common sense that 1: a 17 year old guy with his 16 year old girl friend should be able to hit a few balls without feeling intimidated by anybody or anything 2: a mom should feel comfortable bringing a son or daughter to a room to try pool without having to worry about a crappy, foul, intimidating environment.

Most of us here may not be intimidated by most rooms, hell, we may even enjoy it, but we are not the future of pool.

The more comfortable and welcoming a room can be the better it serves not only todays players but tomorrows as well.

If it were your pool room what would you want the general public to think of it?

Just my thoughts, not trying to start another "pool room rules" thread.

i couldn't disagree more. let the mom take her kids, and a kid who feels intimidated on a date, to dave and busters. recently one of our pool rooms closed. two of the leagues i play in decided to take the leagues to dave and busters. i declined to play on those teams any more specifically because that is a family environment i don't think they should be subjected to my mouth, foul humor or dip spitting.
i go to the pool hall because there is drinking, swearing, gambling, women who may or may not show up in completely inapropriate clothing. in other words i go because it's an adult environment.
as to the futre of pool argument. pool halls have had the same rep for years. the same behavior ihas been going on and yet and still here it is today. the reason pool player numbers are dwindling has nothing to do with not being able to take kids into the rooms (most of which here in atlanta don't allow children under 18). the ranks are shrinking because kids today are for the most part not interested. they want thier playstations, extreme sports, cry for me emo or bad dubstep music and on and on.
pool is dying becuase there's no money and no excitement in it.

Really the only thing I tend to have a problem with is smoking. I don't smoke and honestly can't stand being around it.

I drink a beer occasionally and wouldn't mind playing in a pool room that serves.

I don't really want to play in a bar that just happens to have a few pool tables.

Those just seem to draw two different kinds of crowds. One I like. The other......notsomuch.

But, I'm wholeheartedly for any location that happens to have pool tables as opposed to none at all.

Make sense?

This

goes beyond what you like or dislike in a Pool room. It indicates what is wrong with our sport. What is wrong, is there is very little for a person to do as a Junior in our sport. Pool should be offered for competition between High Schools, and there should be more competition avenues for Juniors.

This indicates too, that our sport needs to be subdivided down like baseball is to have A, AA, and AAA levels underneath the pro level.

Then, you will find some Pool rooms that are geared for family and youth start to make an actual profit. Typically, these types of rooms now do not do well business wise.

And before you do any of this, you need one National organization that can organize and manage all Pool organizations in our country as a whole.

The family-oriented halls here do WAY better than those that cater to the adult pool-playing crowd. I think it's great. There are a bunch of kids who would come to the hall for whatever reason, and now some are learning the game. Some are now employed by the pool hall and play free, absorbing all they can from the players that come in. These kids are the future of the game and we need to encourage them in every way possible. Setting up pool halls that are adult oriented and discourage kids from entering are doing our game no good.

I would LOVE if it were all like this.
