Mcdermott does not honor warranty

I'm apologizing ahead of time for slightly hijacking this thread.

So I have a regular search on Ebay that looks for used cues and I noticed that the ever present mega seller ASKA is now selling McDermott cues that are 'used once' presumably so they can list them and bother the people that only look at used cues. In the description they claim the cues come with McDermott's lifetime warranty - which I thought only covered the original owner. Doesn't that fact you are buying it used mean you are *not* the original owner, even if the seller is a licensed seller?

Shouldn't you be asking the seller of the cue on Ebay??????

Maybe the cue is new, and it wasn't listed right?
Maybe the cue is new, but not allowed to sell it below MAP price?
If the company tried it out, it is still new meaning it was never sold before.

McDermott has the best warranty and as long as the cue has
a clover on the bottom with a letter M in the middle, it is covered.

You just need to look up exactly what the warranty covers.
Does not cover the tip, finish, or wrap.

There is no lifetime warranty on the tip, finish, or the wrap.:frown:

But there is a warranty on defects. My finish had a few small blisters that I would consider a defect, especially since they already refinished the cue once. The only problem was they were stating it was from "climate change". I still don't understand how you can be more careful and treat a cue better than I did. Regardless, they are covering it now so I am satisfied.

Yeah, that is seriously weak. That is worse then just saying "no we wont honor the warranty" IMO. At least in the refusal state they can be thought not to be at fault, when they say they "will honor the warranty but you gotta buy something else from us" that just smacks of extortion to get what you already should rightfully be getting. Brutal customer service IMO.

I'm fine with it. I've been using a 314-2 lately on my other cues so I didn't like playing with the original maple shaft anyway. I was planning on getting a 314-2 or OB Classic for it anyway. They actually gave me a great deal. $200 for the I2 with matching ring and $50 to wrap in leather. In my opinion, Mcdermott stepped up to the plate and did the right thing. I would definitely buy again from them in the future. I just hope I get my cue back SOON! Do you hear that Jayme? LOL

...
From my understanding, the lifetime warranty didn't come into effect until about 2007 or so. ...
I was a dealer during the 90's and have a 1998 catalog that lists the lifetime warranty
(The McDermott Promise) which reads about the same as has already been posted.

"...free from defects in materials and workmanship for the entire liftetime of the cue."
"...applies to all parts but excludes warpage and normal wear on replaceable items
such as the tip, finish and wrap."

Can't say when the lifetime offer actually went into effect.

It goes on to specify that the warranty applies only to the original owner
and requires an original receipt of purchase from an authorized McD dealer.
Also states the warranty is void if the cue was subjected to abuse or
mishandling. I'd think "mishandling" can be open to "interpretation" when it
comes to approving warranty claims.

On a side note if anyone is interested in an RS-11 or M7-QR5 let me know.

I'm glad this got resolved, although the first time you had mentioned it, the situation did raise my eyebrows a little. I still don't understand the original "climate change" excuse either, but I feel better knowing you got the service on your cue.

In the OP case the original lifetime warranty (if one existed) would not cover the refinish he said he did 10 yrs ago. It is that finish that had the problem (unless I read the op wrong) and therefore wouldn't be covered. If they warranty the repair work they do (and I don't know that they do) then this would fall under that warranty....
