If you could recast The Color of Money...

Denzel washington as Eddie

Lil Wayne as Vincent

Nikki Mina's as carmen

Directd by Tyler perry with Eddie Murphy playing 8 character roles lmao

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol starring Tom Cruise 2011 Worldwide Gross 700 Million (I wish I was that unpopular)

The point of my comment was that everyone is quick to recast Tom Cruise when the truth is, he was probably the biggest reason for COM's success. Now, it seems like everyone has Ben Stiller's skit in mind when they watch COM. People seem to forget that after that movie came out, the whole world was playing pool. Two years after that movie, within 1 mile of where I grew-up, there were over 300 pool tables.

Film Reboot

The dustbin of history is filled with shoddy attempts at classic remakes. What is need is an original script that resonates with today's marketplace. Right now,Archery is showing a surge in interest due to the recent Hunger Games phenomenon. The story line wasn't about archery, but was a human interest story that incorporated archery as a subtext(The Hustler as a Film Noir Classic) which captured the emotions of the audience.

Great writing makes great movies. Original content is important. We don't need a Fats or Vince. We need a story that incorporates human frailty, desire, and emotion. If there happens to be some connection between the protagonist and antagonist over a pool table, the better.

Writing is a solitary art form for the most part. It takes years. It took almost 27 years between The Hustler and Color of Money. We may be getting close to another "Classic".

I wouldn't change it at all. Great movie.

There is only one person who can pull off the over-the-top hair and over the top attitude of Tom Crusie, that would be of course....

Vanilla Ice !!! :D

It's nice to have a connoisseur checking in, CF.

How about Danny Diliberto's Road Player?.....with a major part dedicated
to his star pupil, Mike Carrella.
Mike's story is tragic...many of us thought he would be the new Mosconi.

..don't know who should play Danny or Mike...but I would like Christopher
Walken and John Travolta involved somehow.
...and I'd like Clint Eastwood directing.

Do the Movie the way the book was written--the book was far better than the movie--at the time the book was first published--Gleason was still with us and could have made the first shots as written in the book--could have still given Newman the award and we would have had an outstanding work for our sport---

You make good points

History is also full of excellent movies that are remakes. In fact, I'm of the mind that remakes have a higher over all quality than movies in general.

Some good remakes:

True Grit
The Departed
Pale Rider
Last Man Standing
Scarface
Fistful of Dollars
Ocean's Eleven
3:10 to Yuma
The Fly
The Magnificent Seven

I would personally put all of these movies in the very-good or great category.

dld
You make some very good points dld, especially with the impressive list that you posted. These are the exceptions that stand out against all other films, not just within their genre'. We know Eastwood used Kurosawa's body of work as an influence in his westerns. I also admit that technology has helped in the creation process to add influence to the remakes. Thanks for posting up a short, but impressive nonetheless, list of remakes. Thanks DoubleD.

Thanks pt. There is enough pathos in the Mike Carella Story to make a pretty good script. It kind of reminds me of a Miami Vice Episode. By the time he died,he was already an elite player and hardened gambler. Seldom ducked anybody with game. Fascinating and Tragic.

I think you are joking. But actually, now that I think about it, Joe could pull off Vincent pretty well. I can see it for sure. And a pretty straight shooting Vince I would say.

I agree, he certainly could pull it off, and yes indeed I was completely kidding. :)
