Bustamante beats Dechaine in the loser's bracket to make the final 3 in the US Open 10 ball all Filipinos.

The men from the Island are still on top. Would have liked to see Alcano, Gomez, and Corteza compete also. All those guys sure know how to swing it.
 
Well personally, I would have liked to have seen an American win it, but thats just me. I'm one of those few American who pull for their fellow country men. Every country in the world pulls for their own except Americans!

I think Brandon was making an observation....not rooting for the Pinoy's.

The Pinoy's play at a whole different level....and ironically conduct themselves with class and dignity while doing it. Its hard not to root for the Pinoy's..regardless of where your from.

(A smokin' post of the thread!) I agree, the Pinoys are such a peoples, that it's hard not to like 'em, and/or not to root for 'em.

I first met Pinoys in the U.S. Navy in the early 1980s, and even as American as I am, I found myself really likin' these folks. You know you have just "that connection" with a certain people when you get invited to have dinner with their families, which I did.

These days, I try to buy American whenever I can, but at the same time, with a focus on quality, making a deviation whenever a product really impresses the h*ll out of me. Vehicle-wise, I own a Chrysler product, as well as a Kia product (South Korean). In handtools, I buy American almost exclusively -- Klein Tools, ChannelLock, EstWing, Snap-On, etc.

However, when it comes to *peoples*, I couldn't care less where they're from. I enjoy and revel in the fact that I have friends from all over the world. Sure, it'd be nice to have an American champion, but hey mf'ers, they (the American pros/players) have to *earn* it. Just "being American" doesn't grant an automatic ticket into greatness.

They are very respectful many times. Pool in particular, on the International stage. Put your best foot forward. Huge National pride. You don't see many Pinoy's going "Earl Strickland", still don't undertand why so many people revere Earl? He's a piss poor example of sportsmanship.

I served under/with/over many Pinoys in the USN for over 20 years. I love this country, that's why I live here. You have to be emmersed in the culture year 'round to see the true colors. Everything isn't Mango's and Cream. Major problems in MANY ways.

Rudenss/manners, and what actually happens in the brangay is not exactly the same way as you see it on a televised Pool tourney.
 
keep in mind guys the Americans are not playing pool day and night like the pinoys are! consider the 80s and 90s when top American players here were winning alot tournaments over parica and efren! even in those 2 decades top pros was not playing as much as they should have been. pool is life in the Philippines for many! so they will have an edge over us players.
 
Was at the poker tables at the Riviera on Saturday night (5/19) when Alex comes in and is ready to play some cards. Busty soon follows and is sweating the action for awhile. The Pinoy click gathers and the energy in the room picks up immediately. Good thing Alex has to sit on my right because he got the entire table to agree to raise the blinds and the buy-in for the game. He also had chips flying into the pot and encouraged others to do the same with much success. For about 30 minutes it was a high-energy/chaotic poker game that had dozens of spectators enjoying the show and it was an absolute blast! Gotta love Lion!

If my memory serves me right, I think it happened back in US Open 9 Ball 2005 with Alex, Bustamante and Parica in the top 3 with Alex taking the cheese.
