butt taper question

I was reading about butt tapers earlier in the day and was wondering what info can be extrapolated from these numbers:


.830 at the joint
1.0335 at the A-joint/top of wrap
1.2335 at bottom of the wrap
1.276 at the bottom of the buttsleeve
1.296 at the bottom of the buttcap
 
That's a fat one angle taper, I think.
Fat handle and skinny forearm.

Going by the numbers you've given, I'd say you measured a Meucci.
It's a straight taper, not compound.
What would you like to know?

I was wondering what type of taper it is.

What would the numbers be for a compound or parabolic taper?
 
My taper is straight & the joint is .830 & the butt is 1.255. My taper is concidered fat by some, these days...JER
 
I am no cuemaker but I can tell you that I like a straight taper from the joint at .835 to the butt cap at 1.22. This is how my favorite Tim Scruggs sneaky is built. Anything in the normal butt size of 1.25 just feels to thick to my hand.
It is amazing how small of a difference in dimension that you can actually feel with your hand.

Measuring the bottom of the butt is useless in determining how fat the handle is on a lot of cues.
What you need to measure is middle and bottom of the wrap section.

I am pretty certain that I did take more than the two measurements than I had originally enclosed it's just that I couldn't remember what those two handle dimensions are at the moment. I am sure that the cue has a straight taper though. The current cue that I am having built will be built to these straight taper dimensions because that it what I like.

How many cuemakers build cues with a parabolic or other non-straight taper?

I will have to measure my many cues to see if I have any non-staright taper cues as I would be curious. I thought SW was one of the few that use a non-straight tapered. I certainly could be very wrong though.

A LOT. Zylr, Tad, Schon, Gus, Searing .....
One of compound taper's benefits is skinny handle ( if done right imo ) even if the bottom is 1.250.
If all cues had straight taper, then you can judge how fat the handle by just measuring collar, A-joint and bottom.

The cue in question is my 03 Runde. It measures 1.125 roughly in the middle of the wrap.
 
I have an 0.870 joint and 1.25 butt. I don't use metal in the A joint and like a stiff playing cue. This configuration works to achieve those goals.

Thanks for the pic. I've noticed that CP's inlays always seem to be proportionate to the rest of the cue. Aesthetically perfect, IMHO.
