Talisman WB Tips Advice

Hey guys, so after taking some of the advice on here, I bought some medium talisman tips, and I have mixed feelings about them. I gave it 2 weeks of consistent play, and here is what I found:

  • When hitting firm shots, the feel is great.
  • I get inconsistent spin from lightly stroked spin shots. Probably my own fault but I haven't experienced this with any other tip I've used.
  • It's a bit harder to draw the ball than with my previous everest tips but this is fine. I got used to it.
  • I miscue more than normal.

And the biggest one:

  • Tip sounds horrible, like there's an issue with my joint. Everyone I've played with has mentioned it.

This last one could just be poor installation, but the installation looks alright to me. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I'm trying to figure out what to do next. Along with the medium WB talismans I got a medium talisman PRO tip, and I was thinking about switching to that, but I'm worried I might be wasting my time. I also heard emerald was really good for the medium/hard tip type, which I prefer over soft tips. Right now it's more about getting a tip I can count on more than anything else, because I have a big tournament in a few weeks that I've been training for. I did manage to win a local tournament with these WB tips, but I think it was despite them, not because of them. Any advice?
 
got any pictures so we can see what it looks like installed. from the sound you described ti sounds like you've got some air under the tip. maybe an air pocket between the tip and the ferrule. there also could be a delamination problem. those tips are prone to delaminating!!!

i'd install a different one and see what you think. when you do the glue part though try gluing the ferrule then sand it. then glue the tip and sand it. and then glue them together. never had any problems with air bubbles or tips coming off when i do it that way.
 
Sounds like either improper installation or the layers were not bonded well and are seperating. I've been playing Talisman WB Hard tips for over ten years and love them. I have had two tips split between layers and fall off over the years. One only left the layer glued to the ferrule and the other split a couple layers higher. I noticed a noise (clank sound) from one of the tips before it gave up the ghost so maybe this could be your issue. I would guess fewer than 5% of the tips I've used or installed for others have had any problems.
Report back what you find if you discover the cause of the noise.

So the consensus is I should try to install a different medium WB tip? I didn't install it myself, so I'm a little wary of getting the same guy to do it again. Maybe he won't charge me this time...

Still, it's not just about the money, it's about the playability. I'm concerned I'm going to run into the same problem again, and it's not convenient for me to get my tip replaced. I can only get it done once a week unless I drive an hour to the nearest pro shop.

My brother plays with a Talisman pro and I used to play with one they are okay:)
 
The "ting" sound is common with their hard tips, their medium and soft tips don't tend to make that noise.
 
Reporting back, I found that there was a crack in the side of my WB tip. The layers were coming apart and you could pick at them with your fingers. I decided to install the Talisman PRO M and after shooting with it for 1 night, I couldn't be happier. :thumbup:

Hopefully I still feel that way in a few weeks. Thanks guys.

Wish that were the case. I started to notice a click sound in the new Talisman PRO M tip I just installed, and sure enough the layers are coming apart again after only 1 week! This is unacceptable. :mad: I take good care of my cues. I keep them out of humidity, heat, cold, whatever. I don't break with my player either. Now my big tournament's next week and I have to scramble to find something else. Maybe I'll just go with Kamui Black. Even though I don't like the sound (or lack there of) and soft spin shot feel of them, at least their layers stay in tact.

The long drive to a cue maker was the very reason I started putting tips on myself 5 years ago. I did it by hand for a few months and then saw a thread where a shaft spinner was described using an electric drill and a crutch tip. That really helped me putting tips on like a professional. You probably have an electric drill and a crutch tip was around $3.00 at Walgreens. Do a search on the forum if you need more information.

yeah i quit using these tips because so many of them delaminated on me or played a little different. the good ones play f'n great but i can't afford to try out a lot of em hoping to get a good one ya know.

Hey OP you wanna sell me one of your extra tips?.... yes i see the hypocrisy
 
If they were the Talisman WB Hard tips I'd buy them from you without hesitation. Sorry to hear about your continued problems. I don't have much experience with their standard Hard tips. I found all the "tan" tips from Talisman to be too soft for my taste. Good luck. Perhaps try milk duds next time?
 
Just replaced my Talisman with a Tiger Sniper and it's the best tip I've ever shot with so far. Hopefully it holds up. I've heard mixed reviews about its endurance.
