Another Music Thread...What's Your Choice to be Played?

I am a HUGE music fan, so I did a search for "music" to see how often it's been discussed...Wow! Yep, a lot...but I didn't see a thread like this...

I think music can show a pretty "raw" look into the type of individual we are...notice I said "raw" as it isn't a tell-all...but I think it would be pretty cool to take a peek into what makes everyone tick...

I know there's a definite line with people as to whether they want music, whether headphones should be worn, whether the music's too loud, etc.

So let's say there's a jukebox playing, you have sole control of the jukebox, the volume level is "perfect" to your liking...and the selection has to pertain to YOU - not a music choice that you pick because it would shark your opponent!

What music would you have playing in the background while you were shooting pool both in practice (by yourself) or competition (whether friendly or big-stakes)?

I think it would be awesome if you can give a couple examples...and maybe provide a YouTube link so others can hear it, that would be really cool!!!

For me:

Practice:
Mark Isham - Sense of Touch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7zZUH6y3cc)
Lee DeWyze - Hallelujah (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWV7fVzjEGY)
Stevie Nicks - Beautiful Child (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDTTI2UVcMQ)

Competition:
Marty Robbins - Cowboy In The Continental Suit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjZWKLP_fvg)
Chris LeDoux - This Cowboy's Hat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQPRFqWPWgE)
Lee DeWyze - The Boxer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh72GNmmhbg)
Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard - Pancho & Lefty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvdmxszsDM8)

I can't post links (work rules and all that) but...

I've found that, when these artists make hit the speakers where I shoot, my comfort level jumps.

- AC/DC (Practice Only)... don't have time for the air guitar during actual competition.
- Hank Williams Jr.
- John Prine

with the exception of the last listed, I'm you're stereotypical 40 something male from the midwest. :)

Southern Rock-Country Blues:

The Allman Brothers (Whipping Post)
ZZ Top (La Grange)
Stevie Ray Vaughn (anything; Pride & Joy)
Marshall Tucker Group (Can't You See?)
Lightin' Hopkins (Fishin' Clothes)
Willie Nelson (On the Road Again)
B.B. King (Guess Who)
Muddy Waters (Hoochie Coochie Man)

I've got a recording of a great pool song called "Rack 'em Up" performed by a band out of the Netherlands called Big Max. Not sure if they wrote the song or not. Probably not since all the other songs on the album are covers. Great band and the PERFECT pool song.

Wu
NIN
Maynard James Keenan
Lovage and other slow electronic/triphop

Turn the music completely off. If you get the wrong crowd showing up that behave like pool is a basketball game, put on some banjo picking music, bluegrass fiddle or yodeling.

That's Classic!! ...Monk chanting will also clear the wrong crowd

I like all types of music and my mood usually determines what type of music I will choose.

I would say that most all reggae music works well for me while shooting pool.

gcs25:
Prine cowrote one of my "favorites" - David Allen Coe - You Never Even Call Me By My Name (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAOVRkSCWmg)

DoubleD:
I listened to Tom Waits - House Where Nobody Lives. Pretty raw (in a good way). Started reminding my of Bob Dylan... I've heard Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah (which is also good), but for whatever reason, Lee's version makes the hair on my arms standup when I hear it.

Rin:
Two good picks there! I've got about 7 albums of Winters on my iTunes!

bdorman:
I'm a HUGE Southern Rock fan as well! Gotta love Marshall Tucker Band - Heard it in a Love Song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUL68ZeclcA)

Hungarian:
I watched that link three times in a row...it took me that long to realize Bobby Rush was even singing in that first link! :embarrassed2:

bflgvs:
I agree...ANYTHING by Seger!!! My favorite by Garth is "Wolves". (By the way his was HANDS DOWN the best concert I've ever seen!!!)

Icon of Sin:
I'd never heard of Maynard James Keenan, so I found this link to a cover of Rocket Man (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtaMTIQuwA8). Pretty Cool!!! I'm going to have to find some time to listen to more of his stuff!

Kevin:
Here ya go - rated the most popular reggae song of all time: Bob Marley - No Woman No Cry (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x59kS2AOrGM)

Ghosst:
Tab Benoit - Louisiana Style - That was AWESOME!!! Really nice!!!

I'm a big Tab Benoit fan. Started checking him out live back in the early 1990's. "Nice and Warm", his debut album, was a great recording. Recorded at Sugar Hill in Houston in 1992 on Justice Records owned by Houston Lawyer Randal Jamail. Great lineup on this recording including legendary bass player Steve Bailey on the fretless bass, Dr John on a few cuts and Reese Wynans keyboard player from SRV's Double Trouble.

Here's Drowning on Dry Land from Nice and Warm...an Albert King song

I care very little about the music that is played, provided it is sufficiently loud. There is something about noise that I find calming, like an airplane engine. In a pool hall it helps me not hear stupid rail birds that would not bet they were breathing but like to watch my match.

That being said, if I had to pick, I think I would pick really thuggish rap. I believe I can tolerate this music much better than any of my likely opponents. Of course, if Scott Frost comes through town, I may have a buddy play some Rachmaninoff.

Having played music on the radio and in bands for much of my life, I don't really care too much what's being played. I've even begun to appreciate a little bit of country music lately (probably since it's merged so closely with pop/rock lately, methinks), which shocks me somewhat.

I'm good with most classic rock, pop, country... If I was programming the selections for me, I'd probably go more the classic rock/hard rock route. AC/DC, Def Leppard, Eagles, Seger, Lynryd Skynyrd, etc ,with a smattering of older stuff, Bealtes, Pink Floyd, Stones, The Who.

I do like hearing something in the background, though. Too quiet is, well, too quiet. I hear everyone talking too much that way.
