Help with a legal situation, how to fix this?? Az'ers i need your advice?!?!

I'm all for doing good things for boys and girls clubs. Shoot even Cocobolo Cowboy has been known to do good things for kids.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Just because you considered donating them doesn't make it right. You are knowingly trafficking in illegal copies. Send the DVDs back and wash your hands of it. You're both wrong, the guy who sold them to you and you for accepting them.
You're not going to get prosecuted. Put them in a box and send them back and the deal is done.
Then as pennance you should go to the local kids community center and fix their pool tables and make sure that they have good equipment and you can donate some time to give lessons or run tournaments.

Well actually sir, or maam, I don't need or want your information. unless you want to talk to me. I'd like a chance to sell you a case but otherwise don't really need to know anything about you.
My brother has always spelled the name as Kaplan which is how my father spells it. I have never known him to do it any differently. Why I use alternate spellings is my private business which is on a need-to-know basis and you aren't on the list of people needing to know. However it's not an insidious reason and I would tell you were we to have a phone conversation. There is simply no reason to speak of personal affairs on an open forum.

As to the DVD's....send them back. You don't know any of the circumstances of how/when/where/if they were illegally copied, etc. You said he told you they were copies before he sent them, so you were willing. If you have already made copies for yourself, just send them back. You took his money back, didn't you.
Stealing photos off another site or person's listing and using them without the proper release/authorization is basically the same offense.

I'm in complete agreement! Maybe if something as important as this gets in the news, they will forget all about the "Fast and Furious" gun-running operation. Finally, pool will get some needed exposure.

Here is what I have concluded/speculated based on all three threads and all Mike's responses. I believe they are in circulation already or have been loaned, sold, or otherwise no longer in his possession. What other possible REAL reason would there be not to have returned them long ago. One poster said just settle on a fair price and send him the $ if you can't produce the DVDs. Great idea. What possible reason would there be to post to these forums, but not communicate with the other party. He has stated previously that there has been no response to PMs, phone calls, or emails. How can ANYONE honestly believe he is bent on a resolution to this "problem", when the other party has been ignored completely. Whatever the content or legalities involved with these DVDs may be, has not been the issue until now. Previously the issue was why was it not taken care of weeks after he has returned. If in fact, these items are no longer available, again, just pay the man!
Well maam, I see that you seem to be agitated or upset somehow. If you need to continue your obvious history with John by addressing me then do what you feel you need to. I am certain that if John really wanted to find out your contact information then he would have found it out. Perhaps he really doesn't care as much about you as you seem to think he does. That is between you and him though. He reads these forums and so he will get your message whatever it is.
The story of the names isn't interesting at all. But you can be assured that no one in my family forgets how to spell them.
