Alex vs. Archer updates

JA messes up position and Alex makes it 10-8

Basement is doing a better job so i'll let him do the good play by play...lol

Alex racks them and breaks them and finds himself with a shot after the break. Plays a nice shot on the 2 but then plays a bad one on the 3. Back and forth they go with safeties.

There's a nice cluster of balls near the spot (5,6,7,9 & 10). Alex makes the 4 in the side and snaps the cue ball behind the cluster. He sends the 4 up table and hides whitey behind the cluster.

JA gets a nice hit on the 5 and they kick back and forth. JA misses a kick and makes matters worse by moving the 6 out of the cluster.

Danny says "Alex still has some work to do" but someone forget to tell that to Alex. He runs out and makes it look easy.

Alex 11-8

Nice cut break by Alex pocketing the 1, with a shot on the 2 but he overcuts the 3. JA can't take advantage of Alex's mistake. Alex gets back to the table and runs down to the 8 and plays a "DIRTY ROTTEN SHOT" say Danny. It was one nasty safety. JA hits the 8 though. Back and forth on the 8.

JA could see about 1/2 of the 8. He masse's around the 9 and makes the 8. Played a nice 2 way shot missing a back on the 9. Alex lines up the 1 rail kick and leaves a testy shot for JA. A slight backcut down the side rail. It's only about an 8 foot shot. HE FIRES IT IN!!! Great shot.

Rolls in the 10.

Alex 11-9

No cut break for Johnny. He slams them but comes up dry.

Alex puts JA a mile from the 1 but he can see it. First great safety could win this rack. JA leaves the 1 right in front of the side pocket. Alex jacks up and fires the 1 in the side, brings the cue ball out 2 rails get okay on the 2. Jacks up again and fires in the 2.

He should have to jack up every shot just to make it fair. Shoots with a level cue on the 3 and overruns position a bit. Undercuts the 4.

JA with a chance. Nothing is tied up. Both players are asking Jay to clean the cue ball quite often. Luckily there's not too much lent on the table because I haven't seen JA clean off too much lent.

JA fires in the 6 and just about gets the worst roll of the day by freezing on the 10. But almost doesn't count.

JA finishes off the rack

Alex 11-10 with Johnny breaking.

Johnny pauses for a bit trying to decide where to break from. Comes up dry again after hitting them hard.

Safeties again. Mark mentions that there hasn't been a single B&R yet this match.

Alex fires in a real tough shot on the 1. Position was a bit touchy from the 2 to the 3 and Alex ends up overcutting the 2. Back to the kick/safe game. Johnny kicks the 2 and it finds it's way into a pocket.

Johnny makes a tough angled shot on the 4 into the side pocket and weaves his way through the rest of the rack but not before overrunning position on the 10. Luckily he overran it so much that it went straight into the side.

All tied up.

11-11 with JA breaking.

As a side note I can't help but think how awesome it would have been to watch Efren play on this 10 footer in his prime. This table would have really showcased his game.

JA loses the cue ball a bit on the break but makes the 1 w/ a shot on the 2. He positions himself for a safe but over hits it. Alex can see the whole ball and JA now finds himself snookered.

Alex gets the first chance to run out. The only problem is the 7/10 are tied up near the spot. Not sure what he's going to do with that. Alex has a 14.1 sort of shot. He tried to break open the 7/10 and just misses the 7/10. Just misses a great safety.

JA stares down a 9 foot shot on the 7. He stares down the 7....takes his time....jacks up.....and fires the 7 into the rail. Bad decision going for that shot.

Alex finishes off the 7, the 8, the 9, and the 10.

Alex goes back in front 12-11

Alex cut breaks the 1 in again. Another clustered up table but he has a shot on the 2 if he's crazy enough to go for it. He tries to backcut the 2 while rolling it down the side rail. He misses. These guys are really grinding it out. The score is 12-11 but the finish line still looks miles away.

Archer slightly overcuts the 3 but it trickles in. He can't get out and more safeties ensue. Alex kicks in the 5 and finds himself about 37 feet from the 6 ball. He plays safe. Alex fires in a ball into the point of the side pocket and give JA a chance to bank the 6 cross side....which he does. JA finds himself straight in on the 8 with the 9 20 feet away on the other end of the table. He comes up a bit short on the 9. No easy shot and no easy safety.

He goes for the thin cut along the end rail.....lets the cue go flying but makes the 9. Tough straight in to the side on the 10....AND ROLLS IT IN!!!

12-12

That was two really great shots by JA on the 9 and 10 in the last rack.

JA breaks um hard and makes the 1. 10 almost went in the corner but wouldn't have counted.

Video crashed on me so not sure how JA ended up in the jaws of the corner pocket but that's where he's at.

Video crashes again and when I get it back up Alex has an open shot on the 3. The table is open. Alex misses a fairly routine shot on the 4. Routine on a 9 foot table that is.

Sorry video keeps crashing on me.

Alex ends that rack with a 6-10 combo

13-12 Alex

I am at work and have Archer in the auction, hoping for 1 more comeback.

Alex cut breaks again but the 1 doesn't go this time. The 2 does go though.

This rack is a nightmare. 6 balls are inside of the rack area.

Safeties back and forth until Archer kicks the 1 into the side pocket. JA plays safe on the 3. Alex kicks the 3 down table and in the process opens up the cluster a bit just leaving the 7/9 tied up still. Alex gets the first legit shot on the 3 but his good fortune doesn't last long as he has to kick at the 4.

JA can see the 4 but it another tough shot. Is he thinking about the last tough one that he missed??? Well, he misses this one too and leaves Alex in a good spot but he still has to deal with that 7/9.

Alex gets on the wrong side of the 6 but goes for the break out. He slams the 6 in and sends the cue ball down table, spinning it out 2 rails and back down table to break open the 7/9 and he even gets a shot. He should have gotten out but he overruns position on the 9. He backcuts the 9 in and once the cue ball finally comes to a stop he fires in the 10.

Alex 14-12 WOW GREAT OUT.

Another cut break. The 2 goes in. The table is spread better this rack.

Video crashes :(

Archer has a thin cut on the 1 that he leaves hanging in the jaws for Alex. There's a lot of tight work to do in this rack.

Alex overcuts another cut shot with inside english. Missed it pretty bad too. That could have been the match winning shot.

JA steps to the table and hits the 4 so clean all the way down the rail bringing the cue ball back for the 5. Man...there's still so much work to do. Archer over runs position on the 8 but still has a shot. He recovers on the 8 and finishes off the rack.

JA is still in this.

Alex 14-13 with JA breaking.
