What do you think the real purpose of using a Sneaky Pete pool cue is?

The reason I asked this question is because I know pool players that buy a Sneaky Pete cue and then have wraps and inlays put on it! If you want a good looking cue buy one in the first place with all of the goodies on it, this is just my opinion. I would like to have the AZB members opinions on this subject. My Sneaky Pete is just that Sneaky!

Some players just thing sneaky means hustler! I use super shafts on duffrins and People never notice- all the way to the bank. Hustlers never want to be id-ed as a Pool Hustler and get broken limbs,and keep the cash. mark
 
So you will have something to do when it's not your turn at the table. (like, go hunt for your cue that was put up in the rack with all the rest of the house cues) :grin-square:
 
There used for bar leagues or break cues but never believed they
were used for the Big Hustle.Walking into a bar with any 2 piece cue
sets off alarms and if nobody even noticed,most guys will share the best cue
in a bar since there all usually crap anyways or they might notice that
everywhere you go the cue never leaves your side.Always thought that
myth was garbage.
 
Sneaky pete is more of a description of a style than anything. Lots of SPs have wraps and inlays, doesn't mean it is meant to be sneaked into a bar or poolhall to hustle people.
 
Most SP cues are full spliced and hit slightly different than your typical custom. Some like that feel and then dress them up to their tastes. Some people, like me, are just not into fancy cues and feel they are a distraction so we choose a cue that reflects that.

Bingo! For folks who like wrapless, a lot of top level cue makers make a nice sneaky Pete for less money than their inlayed cues...and the hit is every bit as good.

How do you sneak a cue with a wrap and inlays into a bar where all the house sticks are plain four pointers, a Sneaky Pete is meant to not draw any attention by blending in with the look of the house cues.

Yes and that's exactly what it's meant for, but if you want to call a stick with a wrap and inlays a Sneaky Pete feel free, some people might roll their eyes though.

The only people I see that show up at bars with their own cues are facking jackasses. Good players can beat crappy bar players with house cues.

But if you want to call all of the well known cuemakers who are producing cues they are callin SPs that look any different than a standard house cue stupid, go ahead, some people might roll their eyes though.

Of coarse you don't have to use a Sneaky Pete to hustle.

Using a SP isn't really a hustler cue. Do you really believe that no one will notice the cleanest and nicest house cue in the hands of someone not familiar to the hall? It would be better to take a player, spray paint it black, put some stickers on it and clear coat.

I like the simplicity of a true sneaky. I have one that you'd absolutely not be able to tell from a bar cue.

I have a couple of antique Brunswick conversions that wouldn't pass as a true sneaky as well a fancy sneaky.

My main fav is a Varney conversion.

I can hand out a great game or get my butt handed to me no matter what cue I use. For me, the main reason to use a sneaky is to not take an $800 cue to the bar for funzies.

The "purpose" of a SP is maybe some people like a classic unassuming, well made 4 point cue, that ya'll don't have to spend lot's of money for? A SP isn't fooling anyone.

If you are fixated on the cue the guy/gal is playing with...????
 
I play with a SP. I bought it because I think it is a good looking, wrapless cue. It is simple and dosn't scream "look at me". I don't sweat leaving it at the table when I go to the bathroom because it's inexpensive.

I bought a cheap sneaky and leave it at the bar I play at. They have a back room and let the regulars leave sticks in there. I picked up a Players SP for $60. I really like the stick, hits great and if someone streals it I am only out $60. Bar cues have smashed tips and dings all over the shaft. I do not enjoy playing with them.
