CJ Wiley's New Blog

I don't think they sell it anymore, but there was a match CJ played against Dave Bollman that was great to watch. Bollman did a player review of it.

CJ runs out a very tough rack to win, in a tight match, in about 45 seconds and Bollman is just laughing about it in the commentary.

Are you referring to the match I played against Steve Mizerak in Reno at the Sands Regency? ....Dave Bollman was one of the commentators of that match (with Buddy Hall and Billy Incardona)....I won the match 11/10 and they said I ran the rack out in less than a minute....It may have been a shade more than that, but we both shot over 920 on Accu-Stats. I've been working on the section of my new DVD that shows the two planes of the Professional Alignment System....the vertical plane that goes straight down from your eyes to the cue ball and the horizontal plane that moves clockwise (for a right handed person) and is established a few inches above the pool table....how these two planes come together in an effective pre-shot routine is important and the laser presentation my Producer uses to show this is dynamic !....I'm looking forward to releasing these techniques, it's taken me nearly two years to put it together and now is the fun part....creating the visual presentation with new age graphics and high definition technology. www.cjwiley.com

There's a place in Sherman for sale that I got a call about today....going to check it out later...it would be close for you....it seems to be a nice area.
That's not too far for me, bout an hour I believe. There are lots of good players up that way too.

I just watched the finals of the Million Dollar Challenge last night....we've had some slug fests and I'm fortunate to have played very well against him ... pool's getting fun again, that's what's important to me right now...aloha
Where can I watch this ? I was there for the entire tourny but I cant remember ever seeing any footage since then. It'd be great to relive some of those memories, as they pretty much all revolved around your place in some way back then.

No wonder I couldn't find that match on Accu-Stats. Silly me.

Anyway, it was the quickest run out hill-hill I can remember and that rack was tough. Other than Ronnie O'Sullivan or maybe Drago, no one I've seen play can pocket tough shots as easily and quickly as you did.

One of your old golf buddies moved to Northern Cal and came into the pool hall a month or two back. He was telling me about how nice your nightclub was. I guess Peanut Man got himself in trouble...too bad, he was cool to me when I was there.

I was only in Dallas for a week or two, but I remember going to your pool room and finding out the billiard table had been re-clothed just a day or two before. Perfect timing for a three cushion player.

It seems as though you are having a great deal of fun posting your activities here on the forum, and putting together your new videos. It's great to have someone of your caliber here on the forum, maybe it will encourage some of the other Pros to come to the forum also. You have been greatly missed from Pools Big Picture the last few years.:welcome:

Good Luck getting your new rooms up and running and the videos finished. I will definitely be buying the one about Earl and The Million Dollar Challenge, I was there the night he did that, but unfortunately my timing was a little off and I came in just as the match had finished, so all I got to do was get in line and get an autographed photo. So I'm looking forward to seeing what I missed!:thumbup2:

Received your DVD today, Watched all 40 chapters.

Man, you sure do dress well.

What I really enjoyed was your honesty in explaining how the game is played.

I have my own table, about 6' away from where I'm sitting now, so it was very easy to take your instruction right to the table.

There are quite a few chapters that I will review many times until they are commited to memory.

What I strive for is to shoot pool without any conscious effort.

I like the way that you explain that pool, as any other endevore, is a personal challenge to yourself.

I strive for personal excellence, and yes, I can be pretty hard on myself at times.

You opened up my eyes to what and how a pro players plays and thinks.

Thanks man. Waiting for the next DVD.

John

You watched all the chapters back to back?!?!....that's a lot of information to absorb and process at once... make sure you get the pre-shot routing down from volume 1 as well as you can...everyone will look different in how their bodies set up to the shot, but you will see the similarities in all the top pros feet...they align their feet to the shot line the same way every time it's possible.....this created a positive chain reaction all the way up the body so your whole body will set the same way consistently .....to have consistency in your game you MUST have consistency in your set up and body position...once you can do that there's a whole new world that opens up to your game....In my next DVD I go into more detail on how I align my body to the line in a way that allows me to aim with my feet like they are sights on a gun...this gives you a very solid way to connect the cue ball to the object ball in a way that creates the desired angle every time....glad you're enjoying the Ultimate Secrets....and I appreciate your feedback on the information.

Sounds excellent. Guess it's time to find the link and place an order, eh? Gonna do that now.

Hit 'em straight.

Gotta admit, I can't wait for this. There are loads of instructional discs out there, but if I had to pick one area that really gets overlooked, it would be in the area of alignment. I'm not sure if it is just taken for granted that one's arm isn't attached to their nose, but with so much time spent on aiming and the stroke it is a bit interesting that so little time is spent connecting them.

You're right and I can make a case that it's the determining factor between playing ok and playing great....it sure is in golf....Ben Hogan said something like if you choose the right club (in golf) and set up (align) correctly 90% of the shot is accomplished.....and in pool you already have the right "club" ;)

Yup, all 40 chapters back to back. I wrote down a list of chapters that I want to look at again.

I know I'll have to go back to the aiming chapter many times before it sinks in.

The multi rail position chapter was great.

I have been playing for over 50 years and have never turned down an opportunity to learn.

I hope the Texas Open will be streamed.

Oh yeah, when I grabbed my toothbrush this morning the first thing that popped into my mind was my pool cue. :-)

Have a good day

CJ,
I agree that there isn't enough emphasis on this aspect of the game (I'm guilty of under-appreciating this). I thought about your upcoming DVD, when I saw this cool iPad app for golfers...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYodQuHFDLo

I was tempted to give it a try to see if it could be used to record a pool stroke and analyze it. There could be a market for a CJ Wiley: My Stroke HD iPad app.

Hey...if nothing else, it would give me a good reason to buy an ipad.

Cheers,
Skippy

I'm going to start doing video analysis soon...never thought about what you're referring to though....hmmm

I think the first video mentioned who Tiger used to develop the app. Might be worth contacting them. I have no clue how much something like that would cost, though.

Whether it is the DVD or an app, I think you will get a lot of good response, because I think you are highly-regarded with respect to your fundamentals. When someone thinks "What pro player would I like to emulate with regard to fundamentals?", I think you are on a very short list of players that come to mind. In contrast, someone like Fransisco Bustamante (a legendary player, of course) would be harder to emulate with his type of stroke.

...and you are great at communicating concepts...which is hugely important.

Good luck.

Skippy

Here's another video that gives a bit more information on the My Swing app.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dY9bRssl5w&feature=endscreen

It would be pretty cool to compare my stroke, side-by-side, with CJ on my phone or an ipad...comparing back-arm movement, follow-through, etc. A pretty cool idea, IMHO.

Cheers,
Skippy

I just watched the Tiger Woods link and I think this may be an interesting concept indeed... personally would like the golf app. and I'm not sure if you know, I'm friends with Tiger's previous swing coach Hank Haney from here in Dallas....I'm going to his golf academy to visit him tomorrow and get more info. and see what he has to say about how this is working in the "golf world". thanks, CJ

Very cool. It does look like a cool app for golf. I'm not a golfer...I lose too many balls.

What a picture

Hey buddy. Welcome to the forum. If any of the readers knew how much you can add, on so many subjects besides pool (like turning back the clock on aging) they'd be astounded. We had a good time in the Yucatan climbing pyramids, in Amagasaki City and Kyoto Japan and Aspen. Now, we can hang a little on the forum.
