Ginky vs. Ervolino
I recall when Ginky was trying to tidy up his one pocket game. I think it was in 2002.
He played all evening with one pocket guru Johnny Ervolino at the Amsterdam Billiard Club. The game was that in every rack, if Ginky won, they broke even, but if Ervolino won, Johnny would be paid $20.
I remember sweating it. Ginky simultaneously did a good turn for Johnny and learned a lot from playing rack after rack against a great scholar of one pocket.
It was somewhat amusing, but underscores how far Ginky would go to gain a little extra knowledge about pool.
The Gypsy's Mistake
I recall riding to a tourney at Pete Fusco's room in Pennsylvania with Ginky and Mark Pantovic, better known as Gypsy.
On the first day, Ginky went undefeated to reach the winner's brakcket semis, but Gypsy was eliminated. Knowing Ginky and I could still easily get a ride back to New York, Gypsy decided to drive home. Unfortunately, Ginky's cue was still in Gypsy's trunk when he left. Ginky had to borrow a cue on day two of the event and coudn't make a ball, losing his first two matches in the event ulimately won by his good friend Tony Robles.
