Anyone aim from memory?

I'm starting this thread because while I do to some extent imagine a ghost ball and focus on the desired contact point, I can usually just know where to stand, the line I need to stroke along etc.

After making a ball I get up spend a second or two working out where to aim. A second or two picking a desired spot for the cue ball to land and where I need to stike the cue ball and then I get down to the shot. Once down I think of nothing but the speed I need to get the CB to where I want it.

I'm just curious if anyone else uses something similar. Let me know what you use.

Pidge,

I do very much the same thing. I often say I'm playing by memory as a joke because my shooting eye is blurred from an astigmatim. I sometimes change a bit once I'm down on a shot and 'see' it from down low. Not so much for aim but for cue ball hit, english, for as you say position.

Believe me. You are not alone. I fiddled with what I know of CTE & I am intrigued, because it is dead on when it is on. Keep an open mind about everything.

Good Luck & Shoot Well. Which ever works best.

Thanks for the reply, Rick.

I'm always open to new methods. An easy way to test your aim, and stroke for that matter is to shoot with your eyes closed. Its a good little test to see if you're on you A game.

Actually that's the whole idea at the end game... I generally think of it as aiming by visualization and not aiming by memory.....

I use tons of systems to help develop the end game visualizations and sometimes when a visual doesn't come I fall back to the system to get thru the shot...

As long as you continually reinforce a visual you can call on it... If you let it sit in your head and gather dust without reinforcing it you will start to forget the exact visualization required....

Anyone aim from memory?
Everyone.

Memory is the primary aiming tool no matter what method or system you use. "By feel" aiming, a part of every method/system, is subconscious memory activity.

we all aim from memory to a certain extent

It's just on certain types of shots that we need help over our natural instincts.

If it wasn't for all the optical illusions in pool we would all play like champions.

If we ever meet--this is a meal worth to you from me :) Very nice written words!

Without my memory, I couldn't make a ball.

The trouble is that sometimes I remember the wrong solution for the shot.

Another player from memory here... Questioning your conclusions is as bad as vacillating between what shots to make. Astigmatism can be a benefit when the eyes are not relied upon completely. Less tension and a built in excuse! What could be better?! :-)
