Ferrule material recommendation for a breaker?

What's everyone using for ferrule material on a breaker?

Linen, ivory, phenolic? Pro's and con's for each?

I don't use a dedicated break cue, but I highly doubt you will find many with ivory on them. Surely someone more knowledgeable on break cues will chime in with better advice on the rest of the options out there.

For my own cue I use a phenolic Ferrule with a Leather Tip on it. I have never been able to control the cue well with a phenolic tip / ferrule combination.

That's the combo that I've been thinking of. Or close to it.

How about a phenolic ferrule with a leather tip impregnated with phenolic?

Anyone use a phenolic ferrule with a phenolic tip or something like the White Diamond? I currently use a White Diamond and love it. But, my old budget ferrule is cracked and it needs replaced.


What is this G10 stuff? I hear people mention it, but I know nothing about it at all.
 
G10 is fiberglass fibers impregnated with epoxy resins. Very similar to phenolic. G10 machines easier than phenolic, so that tells me it's a bit softer. I personally believe phenolic hits harder than G10.

It all depends what you're looking for in a break tip. The phenolic/G10 solid ferrule-tip combo is pretty difficult to beat for hardness, but you'll lose cue ball control.

A phenolic ferrule with a super hard break tip (which I personally use and recommend the Odega) hits damn near as hard, and gives quite a bit more cue ball control.
 
Don't forget if you are playing BCA a non leather tip is illegal,I personly use a very pressed triangle tip trimed short on a phenolic ferrule and it works very well,with much more control than a solid phenolic.

i seem to loose the tip more often on phenolic ferrule is this common! i put my own tip on?

In my opinion hitting the one solid is better than hard tips

My Esquire break jump cue has an solid Ivory Joint, Butt Cap and has an Ivory Ferule on the shaft. I have one of the two prototype Esquires being used by a player and has preformed excellent.
