Desert Classic Tour...RANT!!

I've been playing o the Desert Classic Tour since the very first tournament at Alexanders' (Phoenix AZ).
For those that don't know, the DCT is primarily for Arizona players, although we do get some players from CA and NM from time to time. There are approximately 8 tournaments per year, each awarding points toward the end of year final tournament (seeded for top 8 on points list). The top 8 on the points list also get free entry into the finale in December. So....this brings me to my issue. The points list and results are not updated in a timely manner. For example..the last tournament (1 Pocket in August), no points have been awarded for yet. I don't think it's asking too much for the points to be updated within a couple weeks of the tournament....do you?
Are there other tours that do points standings for the year? How long does it take to update the points, after each tournament? I welcome any input.

I'm sitting in the number 8 spot, but I didn't play in the 1 pocket tournament, so I should drop off the bubble for free entry in the Finale. The next tour stop is the 20th-21st of this month. It would be nice to know how everybody sits in the points standings if we are going to bother trying for free entry into the Finale. This has been a peave of mine for a couple years now, does this even matter to anybody else? Or am I just getting picky in my old age?
The weekly league I play on for BCA can update 50 players by the following day, but the DCT can't update points within 2 months of a tournament? Grrrrrr..............

Hi there Chris,

I do know this for sure. Phoenix is one of the best places in the world to live and play pool. There is always something going on and so many people continually promoting this and that.

That Desert Classic Tourny is Classic for sure and sets the tone for others.

There might be a flaw here and there but for the most part WOW, Phoenix and everyone involved with everything that keeps this all happening there.

I travel all over and it don't get any better than this. Some places are close but Phoenix has my vote for top place for a pool players in the world.

Have you asked the Tour Director this question? What were you told? If you haven't, I'd try to get an answer from him/her.

It seems to me that it SHOULD have been updated by now.

The Director of each tournament is not the person who updates the website. He gives the results to the website administrator, who is supposed to do all updates. This is where the ball is being dropped.
The website admin. no longer plays on the tour and apparently does not want to give up control of the website.

I agree about the DCT holding some great tournaments. I just want them to update the points standings a bit more promptly. Last year I had to do some higher math before the Finale to see if I was in the top 8, due to the standings not being updated from a previous tourney.

You should be able to lose out of a tourney, put your stuff away and see your updated points list before you get to your car.

With current technology, this should be automatic.

The fact that it isn't simply shows that the TD's and webmaster don't really care.

Check out www.nwfoosball.com. This is a website run by a dude with whom I used to play foosball. He keeps track of several weekly tourneys. About a third of the tourneys actually use software he wrote to draw partners, randomize the bracket, track which tables are in use, etc.. If the venue has a wi-fi connection, the brackets are shown in real time.

Again, this is for $5-$10 entry fee weekly tourneys. Any pool 'tour' which doesn't have at least this level of software should be embarrassed.

Chris, I say you send someone up there and flatten Jimmy's bicycle tires so he won't have anything to do and maybe then, he will update. Those high end tires are expensive.:grin:

If you go in the room Thursday, the results are already posted along with the new points ranking. The guy does it by hand , then enters the results on the room computer for printout. Have a hard time understanding why, with modern technology, your tour director can't update results immediately. Is there a question of the directors reimbursement for the work done?

Hey Lyn,
There is no reimbursement problems. LOL...DRW hit the nail on the head in a post above yours. Jimmy M. is the admin for the website and Dennis O. actually runs the tournaments. The main trouble is that Jimmy no longer plays in any of the tournaments. I'm not sure he has any interest in pool any longer. Hard to beleive since he had/has so much talent.
It may be time for Jimmy to hand the reigns over to another person who is more closely involved with the tournaments. JMHO

Hey Chris. Pardon the interruption but I'd like to know where you play in Tucson. I'll look you up when I'm out there in November or December if you are up for some cheap sets. I'm no nine but I'd like to have someone to play against when I'm out there. I've been to that place on Wilmot a couple times -pockets maybe? I get bored rather quickly beating balls into the rails by myself. Good luck in the tourney later this month.
