I got a few good roles and a little luck

Ok, maybe a lot of luck.

I won the open B at the Western BCA this week. If any of you were able to stand watching me play a bit hungover on the stream, thanks. I tried to put on a good show anyhow.

Still here at the Oregon coast and on my phone, may bore you with more when I get home.

Congratulations...sorry I missed your play. I was watching my family friend Matt go through the ranks of Masters singles on Thursday...

A link to the stream would be nice.
Good shooting, sir.

Gratz!

See you in the open-A in March.

Yep, already have a team set up for the A division, too.

One of his final bracket opponents was telling somebody that he didn't have much of a chance, as Matt was running out like it was nothing, over and over. I was a bit surprised that he wasn't in the GMC this time around. After that showing, I'm sure he will be in March.

Sorry, PT, it was a live stream.

Congrats John

Thanks, Patrick.

....

My finals opponent I had 3 hill-hill matches with. I played like a dog in the near-double-dip, after having stayed up until 6am playing Chris Byers some banks while nearly falling-down-drunk, giving up a fair portion of my winnings. Hard lesson learned right there. I've decided that I'm going to take a break from drinking for a while, if for nothing else to at least recoup the loss from that night.

On the bright side, I was told by some spectators from that drunken episode that I was absolutely hilarious and put on a great show and made some nice shots, from what I can remember I just couldn't stick the easier ones and sold out easy shots in return.

Felt like I couldn't quite get a decent rhythm going during the tournament, except for shutting out a friend in good fashion and shutting out my first finals bracket opponent, missing probably only a couple of shots in each of those matches. Many of my other matches went 6-4 or 6-5. I'm a grinder, so I try not to let it get to me and try to keep my opponent working.. "try" being the key word in a couple of those matches.

I did get to play JC a little, played BDcues a bit(not sure if he's on here), played Dumo a little at the beginning of the drunkenness and played a few friends of course. It was a good time and I still came out ahead. I'll be getting more Diamond practice in the months leading up to the 8-ball tournament, so with any luck I'll be able to do well then, too.

In the teams, we made it into the money, but sometimes things just don't go your way.

John:

Congrats!! Been there, done that, in cruising to (and playing in) the finals of a tourney still smashed from the night before, and it's quite a feat. There comes a time though, when in one's hazy night-after stupor, the realization of "hey, I need to cut this crap out" hits you. ;)

Don't worry about the loss; you obviously lived for another day, and in that subsequent day, proved your mettle.

Great job!
-Sean

P.S.: the thread title says you got a few good "roles." If I may ask, what roles did you get? Main actor? Villain? The drunken friend of the main actor who plays good pool and wins a tourney? :p

Sean, I got to play the role of the worst winner in the tournament.

Wait, I did win the biggest bracket there.. I think there were 171 people in the B's this time around. Heck, Dan Louie only had to beat out 8 other people.

You're making me feel better already.

It's kind of funny.. before getting to the finals, only a handful of people I knew gave me grief for being in the B division. After getting to the finals, they all came out of the woodwork! Even had a little chat with a competition committee member. He didn't think APA 7/9 players should be eligible for the B's, but there's a lot more to it than that. I even told him how I tried to discuss rating discrepancies on here and it's almost like a topic to be avoided as nobody can really put a finger on it.

I did get to play JC a little.

It was great to meet you John. Sorry if our games led you down the road to drunkenness. I'm trying to quit you know. I'll never forget the look on your face when I started handing out wads of cash to the nefarious element there while we were playing cheap. You looked like there was some kind of setup going on and you were in the middle of it.

See you in March. Bring your "A" game.

Yeah, we did have a good time, didn't we? That's not to blame for me allowing myself to go off, a lack of self-control was. Other than that, I thought I did alright outside of the tournament.

The cash was a bit of a surprise to me for that caliber of player. After thinking about it, how somebody plays really doesn't mean much as to their financial situation I suppose. Next time, I'd like to play him a little cheap, too. After all, I did luck out and get him once before.

I'll have that A game ready if you'll practice up your banking! I look forward to hanging out and playing some more next time, too. And thanks for introducing me to a few more people, JC, as there aren't too many people I know at the coast that I haven't already met in my little Portland pool circle.
