Reyes & Appleton TODAY
Took off "lunch" from work today and visited Buffalo Billiards and watched the matche between Efren and Darren.
They said Efren was too old. They said he was over the hill.
Eren REALLY got lucky on the hill-hill game. Efren led most of the match but Darren showed why he is one of the best players in the world and held on tenaciously, responding to Efren's incredible safety play shot for shot.
Efren finally had to kick at the four ball HARD because there was no place to hide. With only the 4-9 left on the table, everything was spread pretty well except the 4 and the 9 which were close together near the head spot. Efren kicked hard hoping to make the 9 ball in the corner pocket or anywhere else it would fall. The 9 was close by and he could have combinationed the 9 by accident but he hit the 4 a hundered miles an hour and it missed the pocket hit the side rail, then the foot rail, then the other side rail and clipped the 9 ball and the 9 rolled ever so slowly toward the side pocket and it looked like Efren was putting the mojo on the roll of the 9 ball urging it toward the side pocket. And just like that, Efren won the final deciding game between he and Apple. My my, but that was luck of the Pinoy of the 3rd Degree. I like Darren quite a bit, especially his talent, his gamesmanship and competitive desire. He is one of a kind. I hate to say it but I was pulling for Efren the whole time. I understand Father Time and this may be Efren's last stand for the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship. I'm sure Darren would understand.
