Shane beat all those Filipinos when the going got tough. He's made in the USA, pure American gold. What a great way to start my day, reading this news of Shane's fine victory. He clawed his way through a bunch of champions to get there too, never looking back.

You're still damn good. No one's gotten to you yet.

Congratulations, Mr. South Dakota Kid. This one's for you ---> SHANE!

We love you, Shane. Keep it going at the Mosconi Cup!

Seeing as how there's only been one pinoy who's ever won the open, didn't that put Shane on the easy side of the draw?:wink:

Those last matches Shane had to play were seasoned pool warriors. He really had to play his heart out to beat those guys.

I'm tickled pink that Shane came out on top. When I went to bed, the remaining two were Dennis and Shane, and it was anybody's guess who would come out on top. Both players are strong, of course.

But last night, the pool gods were in Shane's corner and allowed him to be all that he could be. What a great day it is today!

All those Doubting Thomases praising the Boxing Brits, blue-blooded European robots, Asian phenoms, and our Filipino friends, well, look who's smiling this morning.

It doesn't get any better than this! :)

I think he's currently the best in the World...Banks, One Pocket, 9/10 ball...etc anything. The only question is who is number two?

Number two must be Darren Appleton, Mika Immonen, or take your choice from a about two dozen Pinoy/Chinese/Taiwanese players.

But after SVB... the team tails off. B. Shuffert seems ready for the big stage.

"Pacific Rim Cup" instead of the Mosconi Cup? The USA vs Asia...I'd bet on the Asian's every year.

Yeah, even though it wasn't a full field, everyone is pretty much in agreement that it was among the strongest fields (if not THE strongest) ever for a US Open. So major congrats to Shane! :happydance:

Don't you rain on my Shane parade!

And who the heck is "B. Shuffert"? Is that Brandon Shuff or Landon Shuffet? Sheesh! If you don't know your American players, then don't write about 'em.

We have the Mosconi Cup because Willie Mosconi was an icon, a legendary player, well known around the world. The only thing you have is Efren Reyes, but he's still alive. When his time comes to meet his maker, I'm sure there will be an Efren Reyes Cup celebrating his legacy. The only problem is Efren is still hitting 'em strong, so he has a long way to go before he retires.

Until then, we enjoy the Mosconi Cup and Shane Van Boening, the American sweetheart of pool.

Im very happy that he won .. we need more usa players to step up and win the bigger ones across seas and here in the states.

Here's a cute picture of Shane and Landon, courtesy of OnePocket.org, taken at the 2009 DCC. I'd entitle it "Up-and-Coming and Seasoned American Gems."

I am reminded of this little nugget ---> HERE

It's the U.S. Open, won by a U.S. player in 2012. Eat crow, Pangit!

He's an American expat living in PI Jenny, and do you know what "pangit" means? It means fugly... :p

Well, it appears to me that he's rooting for the wrong team then!

I totally admire and even have a strong fondness for Jose, Bustie, Santos, Ronnie, Efren, Alex, et al. I don't know the other Filipino super stars, but these players, I do know. Each one of them is humble and a gentleman, on and off the table.

Believe me, I'm pulling for the Filipino contingency over all the others after the Americans get knocked out of a tournament.

I'm just happy to see an American do well in pool. It is a little disheartening to read posts written by American pool purists who continue to put down the American players, always praising the Europeans and Asians. I find their posts disgusting and offensive, and I have to hold back my fingers before they spew venom that I might regret later.

The American players just don't have the support here in our country they deserve, and I'm not talking only about financial support. A little patronage or team spirit would be nice from time to time. If they did, we just might have more American pro players competing globally. When their own countrymen bash the Americans, it tells the story of what's wrong with pool in America. Pool purists think they know it all about American pool. Well, they don't!

It was a dominating performance by Shane. His break was better than anyone else's and his shotmaking was top notch. He looked so comfortable at the table you just knew he was going to take this down.

Well done, Shane!

SVB certainly deserved to win. With victories over Van Den Berg, Melling, Alcano, Pagulayan and Orcullo ( not to mention Parica) he took down five of the best players on Earth. Beating Orcullo in any finals is an achievement to be proud of. I am very glad we have at least one American player able to compete with this crowd. I also think Shane is just entering his prime.

If he's living in Subic Bay that explains the confusion (B. Shuffert). Hey Pangit, have a San Miguel for me please.

Efren & Alex have both won it.

Alex was asked what he thought about two Phillipino's being in the final 3 of the US Open and he said the only Phillipino left in the final 3 was Orcollo because he's Canadian.

That's funny! Alex would say something witty like that.

Hey, not that I care, but it's PHILIPPINES (one "l" and two "p's") and FILIPINO with an "f" and not a "p," but one "l" and one "p" within. Believe it or not, somebody on this forum corrected the error of my spelling ways years ago, and I appreciated it, as I had been spelling it wrong. :embarrassed2:

My GOD what a performance by SVB, shocking to say the least. Consistency in every aspect of the game, break, potting, position, safeties, long pots, thin cuts unbelievable. Actually i feel bad for those consider themselves pros, there is new definition for a pro it is SVB. All other pros to be labeled pre-pros.

My new horse from now on, go SVB , move over Efren..

I know what you mean, Naji. It sure does feel good to wake up as an American this morning and feel proud, thanks to Shane Van Boening! :smiling-heart:
