Ferrule Replacement with G5

I've been using Loctite 2 part, 5 minute epoxy for ferrule replacement with good results so far. I only purchase small amounts (4 oz. bottles) at a time. Since it's time to purchase more epoxy, I was wondering if West System G5 would be a good choice for ferrules as well? I've never used any West System products, and was thinking about giving it a try. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks a bunch...

(I've tried the search function but "G5" is too short for it.)

I use G5 to adhere ferrules and have never had one loosen, but you have to take care or G5 will leave a dark ring behind the ferrule. PM me.

I use G5 for ferrules. When you mix up the G5, put a dash of white powder tempera paint in the mix and you won't see the glue line. Get it at a hobby shop.

Another way is don't put any glue behind the ferrule or slide the ferrule on the tenon and use a folded paper towel to wipe out the glue behind the ferrule just before you seat it in place.

Never had one come loose.

Thanks for the info. White powder tempera paint & G5 now on it's way. Got an old Lucasi badly in need of a ferrule, so I'll be trying it out right away.

West G-5 is the only epoxy I've used for 10 years on ferrules. Great stuff! Hope it works as well for you as it has for me.

I wrap thread tape on the shaft with it just over hanging the ferrule edge.
When I cut off the ferrule, face from the inside out.
The excess glue goes on the thread tape.
Trim it all off and done.
I clean the shaft before ferrule replacement.
Depending on the wood of the shaft, sometimes the glue does soak into the end grain and makes a ring appear behind the ferrule.
I have seen coloured epoxy soak in and leave streaks of the colour as far as 5mm back behind the ferrule. As I say, it all depends on the wood.
I know a guy that uses some shaft sealer on the shaft face before gluing on ferrules.
