A little here and there. Couple hours today...........stumbled on this very easy method of applying it.
Been using it on every shot possible. It's a good way to cinch balls, esp long, thick cut shots........just stay down and stroke (accelerate) straight through.
... I'm using the ghost ball (GB) aiming method. So my Shot Line = line through center of CB down through center of the GB. I aim either the left or right edge of my shaft right down the Shot Line............left edge for cut to the right and right edge for cut to the left. This always gives me that TOI and the same aim on every shot. With thick hits I can see an aiming point on the OB......just continue the line through the center of the GB, half ball hit being the easiest (edge of OB). Just stay down and use max speed necessary for the shot and move the tip up/down the vertical axis of the CB as needed for any given shot. ...
I personally think the TOR free video with the sliding cue ball is the better technique. You will get pretty much the same cue ball tangent lines off the hits on object ball as the TOI technique. All you have to do is add the stroke to your arsenal and not the inside, deflecting, etc stuff...my opinion.
RG,
There Tor is merely describing what I consider to be the very basic way of playing. Keep in mind that the Cue Ball with pick up a bit of outside running spin upon the cut collision & will come off the rail with it. TOI can kill that. Plus TOI aimed at the full hit side of the pocket gives you a larger 'landing area' & will tell why you missed when you mis. Normal aiming gives you a 1/2 pocket on each side. Any more & you mis. Did you mis due to aim or did you mis center CB & mis? Or both.
I'm just saying that it has it's advantages just as english as it's advantages over the basic play.
Best Regards,
I have been paying a lot more attention to the "3 point" pocket of aiming and am quite satisfied with the results......just never thought about it until CJ brought it up.
The TOI is an interesting technique and I use it on some shots. I have been working on using a very small amount of spin and only using 1/2 tip. Seems to work fairly well with the right speed.
Happy New Year guys and gals

I have been using the sliding technique for a long time, but situational. I have used Cj’s TOI successfully while experimenting. They have very very similar tangent lines. I have seen Cj post that he likes to know why he missed, I think most above average players always know why they missed? Now do you think a person who can’t split the pocket normally will all of the sudden become a great shot maker using the TOI technique? I think they will go from normal to worse lol
OMG, this also works well with outside english. Just reverse everything.........right edge of shaft for right cuts and left edge for left cuts. Keeps me near center ball which helps keep the CB on line while at the same time getting plenty of spin (running english)........vs the 'float" with inside. This works really well with my LD shaft...........since this is sort of a parallel shift it might not work as well with a regular shaft.
Any further out on the CB I have to use BHE and aim down the shot line (not using any part of the shaft).
Been tinkering around with it lately. Most of you remember all the discussions on that monster thread about how to do it, how to aim while doing it, etc. I think I've found a simple way to do it and it works pretty well......for me, anyway.
Some of you may already be doing this.
Sounds like your method is simply to use 1/2 tip of "parallel" iinside english. Isn't that considerably more than CJ's "touch"?
Yep, pretty close to it............working for me, though.
