Esoteric Cue Traditional with Ivory Inlay

To give something back

Guys and girls,

I have followed Rick´s threads and what he has said over the years. I got a lead from a friend here also about his cues.

What can I say, I´m a cuenerd. Learned some lessons of course over the years and now I know more what I want from a cue and a cuemaker.
I have several cues on order right now and from what I learnt over the years I think they all will be "monsterhitters" for me:). I most probably will use them all, I know today what I like in a cue and the Excalibur in cues I probably already have, but who knows....

Well a short time ago I took contact with Rick and he answered fast and in a very nice way, all the questions I had and then some:).

I then finally decided that I really want one of his cues.

I called him and have now talked with him several times and my decision is even firmer now.
Rick is a real nice guy, and I think he really knows what he is talking about. He shared a lot of thoughts and ideas he had and was also humble enough to say were he got them, meeting and knowing several cuemakers as he does. I had some ideas what I seek in a cue and we talked them over like "cuenerds" does:). Yes Rick you are worse than me:wink:.

He has figured out a way to make his cues but is still willing to listen to ideas, I of course want "his" cue - the way he likes them because I did my homework good enough to know that the cue most probably plays the way I like. No need to go to a maker that hasn´t the same way of see things and ask him to change his cue when there is another maker that most probably already has the setup you like - can´t really figure those customers who want to do that really:rolleyes:.
Anyway, to tweak a cue however to fit your personality is something different. I/Rick will only do one thing however to his regular setup and that is to have a shorter ferrule. Have my ideas about it and Rick also thought it probably would suit me and this was something he will do with no problem.
I´m eager to try his handle size/taper out, don´t think I have tried it before but like I said - want to try it out.

I guess what I´m trying to say here is I think the cue for sale is a real nice shooter (at least the way I want I cue to shoot)- only seen it on pics, but I trust my instincts on it. The cue looks fantastic in quality and finish.

My order with Rick is done, we have figured out most of the colors, woods etc so know I´m just looking forward to see some pics of the chosen things and we are off:). My dealings with Rick so far has been just the way I like them, good conversations, a guy I feel really stand by his work (even offer to take the cue back if you don´t like it - hard to beat), trustworthy etc.

Btw - if someone thinks why don´t I buy the cue in this thread, - not my colors but besides that I think it looks great.

Hopefully you will see some pics and progress soon about my cue:).

Take care and have a nice day

Chrippa

Ps just some clarification, this is what I believe, I might be wrong, happened maybe 1 time before:wink:.

Very nice looking cue, Rick. Glad to see your doing such a good job.
For those who don't Rick, he's a super nice guy and is very meticulous.
Good Luck with the sale. John

Thanks Chief,

Have a great holidays,

Rick

Bump a real nice cue for a true craftsman who appreciates his customers. You can spend a lot more but you can't get a better one.

Rick, I might have missed it if you already posted it. Is the butt cap ivory ?

I own 2 of his cues and they hit great!!

they play great in my opinion!!!
The looks are terrific, however, Rick Geshrey's cues are not known to me. Any readers out there with firsthand experience with his cues? The ivory joint looks to be shorter than most ivory cue joints, except perhaps for a few Gilbert cues I've played with.

How is the ivory joint on this Esoteric different than others? It appears to be an ivory collar surrounding a wood face center. Wood to wood is supposedly the best feel in a cue joint and the cues I own either have a solid ivory flat face or a piloted ivory joint. Does this ivory cue joint design offer any advantage or superiority in its design versus other ivory cue joint versions? Rick, by the way, what's the typical age of the wood you maintain in inventory for making your cue shafts? What's the average weight on one of cue shafts, for example. let's just say a 13mm shaft?

The price of the cue in the photos seems reasonable to me. However, it also places the cue in the same approximate price range of cues from some prestigious named cue-makers that are generally available in the secondary market. Nowadays, spending upwards of two grand will buy a whole lot more cue than it did 3-4 years ago. So based on looks, Rick's cue will compete with the best of them but the cue's overall feel and playability is completely unknown to me. Are there any forum readers that have any firsthand experince owning/playing with one of Rick's cues?

In closing, as I previously stated, this is indeed a very handsome cue Rick has made. If it plays anywhere close to its great looks, then his cues are indeed a cue that anyone would be pleased to add to their collection.
