Brand-New Cue/Shaft Prep?

Forgive me if this is a stupid question- I am just curious. I'm not the most knowledgeable about some of the finer topics of this game and cue maintenance and such. I just bought a new Jacoby cue- the first spankin'-new cue i've ever had. I am going to go knock some balls with it here in a few days, but I was wondering if anything needs to be done to the shaft at all before playing with it. I've noticed topics like burnishing, waxing, etc. for shafts but was just curious if I should do anything, or if doing anything would even prevent/help issues such as chalk residue stain, etc. in the first place. I just want to properly take care of my new baby from the start. I used to not worry so much about this stuff, but now that I'm a bit older and more "refined" from the last time I bought a cue, I remember all the things my dad taught me about taking care of your stuff. haha! Chalk up & start playing. The shaft should be as "prepped" as it can be. The other posts on shaft care are mainly about after a shaft has been used...and used...and...
 
Those chalk stains are character stains , let them be for awhile, then if you want to remove most of them use Magic Eraser on it.---Smitty
 
I actually like that chalk stained patina. I just got a new shaft and it looks strange without it. The thing I would say is that it helps to wash your hands each time before you play.
 
Thanks for the replies, everyone. I didnt think anything needed to be done and I dont expect the shaft to be bright blue after a month or anything. haha- Just curious in case there was something I was missing, finally having something so fancy and new. :)
 
If the shaft is sealed and waxed properly you will get very little chalk buildup on it with just a simple wipe down after use.
