New England area AZ meet and greet

I too would love to go meet other fellow players in New England. You never know who you might run in to at these events. You could possibly know the person you may have been chatting with on AZB and never knew. I love the Billiard Cafe but it is kind of small if a big turn out is expected.

I'm in....You should check out Snooker's in Rhode Island. It is one of the best pool hall that I ever know...
Regards

I'm in, although I would suggest selecting a place more south, so that you can also attract folks from the CT, RI, and eastern NY areas. New England isn't just MA. ;)

Someone mentioned Snookers in RI, and I think that's a great idea. Huge place, great food, and also a well-known spot for high-profile tournaments (e.g. the Joss Tour's "Ocean State" regional championship). Here's their website: http://snookersri.com/

The Worcester, MA area is fairly central to "New England". Since it would take me over 4 hours to drive there. (And there is another 2-3 hours more of "New England north of me.) Yet it's only a couple hours from Rhode Island or eastern NY, probably less. :p

Just bustin' your chops, Sean. I'm the only one this far north that participates on the forum that I know of, though I have noticed a few New Hampshire posters recently. (They are only 3 hours from me, heh.) Spider1 is here in Maine, methinks, as well, but in the southern part.

We tend to get sensitive about being left out "up here", and last I knew we were still part of New England. Again, I kid. :D

It's a long drive to anywhere for me. Have it anywhere that makes sense for the majority, with a facility that will work out for the best. I hope it happens, and I hope that someone takes photo's to post here.

I get ya, Bruce. I just saw all these posts suggesting places all in MA that, really, are all fairly close to each other, when you consider (as you correctly say) New England is a heck of a lot larger than that! I'm only 15 minutes from the CT border, and I spend a lot of time in CT, so although I'm technically not a New Englander, when I show up at New Englander activities, I'm not looked at strange. ;)

I do agree that VT, NH, and ME are sadly often left out in these discussions of New England. If there's a better chance that folks from these states would show up if the meeting spot were kept in MA, then let's go with that. But are we sure that's the case -- that folks would show up?

Probably not. Which is why I suggested having it where ever it works in general. And the number of posters from "our" area is probably small to begin with.

Besides, those of us in Maine, and upstate New Hampshire and upstate Vermont are quite used to this by now. Whenever we go anywhere, it's gonna be a long drive, regardless. :p

(You know its a long ways away when you learn to reference distance in the number of hours it takes to drive there...)

I sincerely hope that this happens, and would really love to be able to go. Since I really doubt that I would be able to make that happen, I really have no business worrying about it's location, I'm just "funning" ya.

What they said, Snookers would be an awesome place to hold an event like this. Huge room and great food and staff. Also I believe last year it was voted the Best new poolroom in America by Billiards Digest.

There are a few problems with Snookers.

1. The place is ALWAYS packed so getting them to donate the facility probably wouldn't happen.

2. The is almost no parking.

3. I have zero relationship with them.

4. It's too far from me. No I'm not being selfish. Lol If I'm donating my time to make this happen, it needs to be fairly close to me while I'm working everything out.

Additionally, Worcester is almost right in the middle of New England. There are plenty of hotels around the area for the folks who want to come in from areas where driving everyday is a bit far. I remember the last one tha twas held in Ct. There were dealers and cue makers that came from as far away as Michigan.

#4 is a clincher, I get it. I applaud your efforts and if you hold it in Worcester I will do my best to attend :-)

Well we have hosted 3... and are looking to do another. There will be an informal get together possibly in February as Mark clears out some of his storage. It will be a large indoor pool/billiard swap meet.

Then I highly recommend waiting to see if the strip club gets an OK.. then we'll have a meet and greet shortly thereafter. :) It will be dubbed... Stewies Sexy Party...:p

Meet n Greet

I am in, bring some nice cues to sell, and look to buy some South West cues if available!
Thank you for trying to get something together.

Shhh.....people might think I'm more than a C player :duck:

You know George, they called your name at the US Amateur in Palm Harbor and I was behind the board with InsidePOOL. I went looking but I couldn't find you! Stealthy!

Freddie <~~~ not coming to the NE get together

I'd come.

The date would have to be clear for me.

The weekend of March 1-3 is out for me. Hall of Fame induction weekend.

Ayer, Clinton, Worcester?

If it's in Worcester that means Jillians, and they have the WORST tables in the state. Unless you like your tables 30% faster than ice and rails that pretty much randomize your bank angles. Billiard Cafe in Ayer or Snookers in RI have the best tables in the area, nothing else is really worth going to. London billiards has a few good tables, but the place is not very nice aside from that. Actually, Billiards Cafe has many tables that are not leveled very well, it's funny how many shots that should miss go in due to the rolls, and same thing for scratches.

I used to like the place in Clinton, free pool Tue-Th and good shape tables, but the pockets have exposed metal in them which dings up the balls horribly.

Sorry but I disagree with you about the tables at Jillian's. While they are not the nicest tables I've ever played on, they certainly are not the worst. As far as the speed, they have Championship cloth on them and yes they are fast but the speed is about right for tournament play. There are a few that could use to have the bumpers replaced but I play league there and we seem to make due.

Honestly, I would rather have the function at the Billiard's cafe but it is not large enough and the tables suck. I hate playing on furniture tables. Also, there is not enough parking.

If this happens, it will be at Jillian's unless for some reason I can't work out the details with them. At that point, I will have to revisit the whole idea. I'm sorry but with my everyday life I can't drive 45 minutes to an hour every time I need to have a conversation or discuss logistics with the manager/owner. Jillian's is ten minutes from my house.
