I go on a little road trip to Florida i made a deal with a guy if i could ride with him i would pay for hotel. We get down there the guy gets his girlfriend to go to emergency room so she could get admitted to a room in the hospital. They wanted me to give them money instead of getting hotel room. The next day she wanted money to fill prescription for pain pills. I grabbed my bag and started walking home. I missed the tournament, and was completely humiliated by calling my dad to come get me. 39 yrs old ....no road partners for me ever again

Yeah Richie, quit holding out on us.

I been shooting pool for well over 40 years, I don't gamble or take road trips so no stories.

I joined APA last year, starting as an SL 4 the first game I played an SL 6 and won. Didn't do to good rest of the session. Second session I have done ok. I am an SL 5 now and top gun. Maybe the luck will hold and I will get to SL 6.

That's my story and I am sticking to it.

20 years ago,,after a pool tournament. Me and friend stayed in the bar and was drinking a few. All the time during the tournament we had won a bunch of stuffed animals out of a claw machine.
They were on the table in front of us. So when it was time to go,,I zipped my pool stick up in a cloth case with the zipper on the end. And just about that time,,he started throwing them animals at me.

I used my stick (and case) as a bat,,and started hitting them across the room.
I went for a home run,,,and stuff started breaking all across the bar. Peoples drinks at one table,,then pictures off the wall at the other end of the bar,,,and the clock.

Everybody started looking around to see what was happening. Including me/us??

It took a minute to figure it out,,,but the butt end of the stick came out of the case,,at full speed. Like a bullet!!!

It wiped 3 drinks off the table between 3 people sitting there. How it did not hit them,,,IDK?? Could have killed them!!

My stick was in pieces all over the place.

It cost me $100 ,,,,some for drinks,,and I gave the rest to bar tender!! for damages.

You should start with one.

You are right, so here it goes, Four of my friends leave Baltimore(around 15- 20 years ago) thay are heading for Florida, the best player in the bunch by far is Cigar Tom Vanover, Jeff(piano man)brinkman, Fat Wayne and Big Bill Eye, now Jeff and Wayne both play about the same speed, 6 ball under Vanover playing 9ball, This Cigar Tom could play 9ball with the best of them, nobody came to Baltimore and beat him in his prime, not even Rempe or Strickland, Tom broke even with both of them playing 9ball even 50 a game, Ok so they head straight for Florida they are going to a great gambling spot down there called the Flamingo lounge, now remember they have a world class 9ball player with them and two A- players in Jeff and Fat Wayne and of course the stake horse Big Bill, So within the first couple of days down there Tom vanover gets some easy action and they pick up around 5 hundred or more, but after a few more days go by there is no more action for Tom all the easy action is gone, Dale is the mans name that owns the flamingo and he plays a little too, so some how Dale and Big Bill matchs up, now Bill can play a little but i wouldnt want to bet my money on him, now Bill is a heavy better and he dont think twice to bet all his money in 1 set, well anyhow thats what happen here, Bill went and bet all the money playing Dale a race to 21, i forget the exact amount, but it was high, the score winds up being 20-20 hilhill, bill breaks the last game of 9ball and runs out to the 9, now Bill has a straight in shot at the 9 but there is distant( cue ball by the spot and 9ball down by the other spot but straight in) Tom, jeff and wayne all told me they could not watch the 9ball shot, they just listen, Bill miss it and left it straight in the side, so they left Baltimore with one of the best 9ball players around at the time and the Stakehorse lost all the money!

Some one here at AZ posts with the Flamingo avatar, if that indeed is Dale maybe he can chimed in on my story about his and Big Bills 9ball match!

My wildest pool story:

Big Italian guy talkin trash all night wants to play for $20 to pay his tab. I wanted no part of it but my buddy insists I play on his $20. My buddy racks and slides a cue towards the guy and it skips off the table and almost hits the guy.

The guy yells about throwing sticks at him and lands a mean haymaker across my friend's chin. The guy tackles him and his head slams against the drink ledge which he had to get stitches in his skull for.

My gf tries to break it up and ends up underneath both of them. I tried pulling her out but couldn't. This guy has the full mount and raining down blows while my man is half conscious.

I grab the butt of my break stick and hit him over the head HARD. He jumps up and yells, "You didn't hit me hard enough! You wanna fight with sticks!!?"

He grabs a house cue as about 15 people are watching in horror, knowing I'm about to die. He's trying to unscrew the one piece house cue while I'm cocked with my break butt yelling, "C'mon Motherf'er!" Trying to psyche him out knowing full well I did not want him coming ever.

Just then security grabbed him and he seemed more than willing to get kicked out without paying his tab.

Suddenly, I'm struck in the elbow by a cue ball. I whip around with my stick ready to strike and see its his girlfriend. I gave her mercy.

Lol. Good one. The Flamingo has always had 1 tight gold crown in a room by the office. In the bar area the got bar boxes.

Always been great action there, Dale will play or have someone play.
I have gambled in there no less then 50 times, as I lived in Clearwater for a very long time. And the Flamingo was 20 mins. away in St. Pete

Ok...
I am visiting wifes family years ago and go to the local tournament. I get there a few hours early and start knocking balls off the table, hoping for somone to ask meto play. Nothing doin.

First match, i ask opponent if he wantsto bet something, he doesnt and i ask for some helpf foguring out who gambles, young kid, tells me everything.
I am there with wifes uncle and grandpa, uncle gets in tourney to, but he is about 70 percent with bih.

Well, i am getting pretty deep in the event and havent used a closed bringe or played a real safe yet. Meanwhile, grandpa is telling half the people there that 'he (i) has been on tv/ hes a professional/ he plays pool for a living'- none trur, btw.

Gets down to final 4 and i am playing one of the guys the kid steered me toward earlier and he wins. Before i have another opponent, i ask him is he wants to give me the 7 and play a short set for 50. He does and it costs him. He says i play too well for that, take the 8 Nd goto 3 for 100. Costs him again.
He and i meet in the finals and i am no longer hiding. He asks me to bet again and some quick math says i got almoost 300 more than i started with. I tell him i will take th 8 again and bet 1 or 200. He says i can get a game for 200 while we play the finals...and my uncle, surprise surprise, asks the dude to bet another 100. Guy declines, but another local takes the action.
I get to 4- finals race was to 5- and we collect our 300, but now the people arent friendly anymore.

I look out at grandpa and see his 80plus year face and wonder how fast he can run. I walked over to my opponent and told him that i couldnt finish, would he split instead of playing the last game. He tells me no, but i can quit. I aplgoize and tell him i really wanted to play but i understand.
We roll out of ther, no blood and with a decent little score too.
Grandpa still tells the tale of the day i 'beat everybody in town', when we have family get togehters.
And he no longer lives there!

On our way to DCC.

Mark Ford and i are going to the DCC back in 2011, so on our way we are picking up Brandon Shuff in Hagerstown Md, which is on our way to DCC, weather is fine we are flying down the road (trying to get there a little early so we can rest before the banks start) then all of a sudden the weather turns to terrible, blizzard like conditions and it was like this all the way from western Maryland to the Kentucky line , so about a 8-9 hour trip took us about 14 hours, so during all this extra time we had together of course we start talking about pool and pool players, Mark isnt saying to much because he is driving in this blizzard, So Shuff starts talking about playing all these different pool players for money and of course i ask him well how are you going to play these great players you have just mention and Shuff says without missing a beat i would play them all even and i say why would you play these great players even when you could get a spot, Shuff comes back with ,i dont need a spot i can beat them all even and Shuff did mention players like Svb and Archer admitting that he would need weight to play these players, but he would never ask for weight from those players, Shuff said he would wait until he was ready enough to play them even, While at DCC i was with Shuff when Jeremy Jones ask Brandon to play some even 1pocket and Brandon told Jeremy instead of me asking you for a spot playing 1pocket i will just wait until i can play you even, So Shuff has a very strong mind set and a hell of a lot of pride, during the long ass blizzard trip we were on, Shuff had said that one day he would be on the Mosconi cup team and sure enough with all his pride and confidence Shuff had did what he told Mark Ford and I, ON THAT LONG DEADLY BLIZZARD HIGHWAY ROAD!

Mixed Scotch Doubles

This happened over twenty years ago but is still my favorite pool story I tell on my wife. We were playing in a mixed scotch doubles tournament that was a race to four nine ball. Our first match was against Joe and Lavern, a team capable of winning the tournament. Realistically we were capable of maybe getting in the money. We had known Lavern and Joe for quite a while and sometimes made sweat bets when we ran into them at the Sands Reno tournaments. My wife had played Lavern in ladies tournaments on a few occasions. Much to my wifes dismay Lavern was ahead on the score card. Anyway before the match Joe and I make a $20 sweat bet, not even enough to cover the entry fee. My wife is a shot maker, but needs motivation at times. We had won the flip and she was going to break first. I look at her and rather than seeing the focused look I wanted to see, she had the 'deer in the headlights look'. Thinking quickly, just before she went to the table to break I leaned over and quietly asked "Did you hear what Lavern said?" In my best calm but incredulous tone. "NO, What?" was her instant response. To which I replied, "Oh never mind." The 'deer in the healights' look instantly became a true game face. She stepped up to the table and CRACK, the rack opens and the nine goes straight into the corner, 1-0. Not a word is said between us, Joe racks and I step up and break. I make a ball on the break and move the nine in front of the corner. My wife steps up and POW-Splat one nine combination, 2-0. Again not a word is said and once the balls are racked my wife steps up and breaks making the one ball. I pocket the two.......and my wife steps up and POW-SPLAT three-nine combination, 3-0. I break making a ball and leaving the cue ball near the head spot, the one ball near the center of the table and the nine pretty much where it had been racked. My wife steps to the table and POW-Splat, one nine combination, 4-0 in less than five minutes. Now I look at my wife and rather than having the look of pleasure at winning she still has her game face on and is stepping towards Lavern, I think "Uh-Oh!". So I rush to intercept her and quickly whisper in her ear, "Honey, Lavern never said ANYTHING, I made that up!"
