Videos and your phone

I had to put my Dad into the Vets wing at a local hospital before Christmas.

I cancelled his land line and set him up with my cell phone. I had been looking at the Samsung Galaxy S 3 for some time so I picked one up yesterday.

One of the first things I did was transfer Tor's videos to it. I'm going to be looking forward to taking them with me to the hall. Man, I didn't know what I was missing before this.

Very much looking forward to Tor's banking video when it comes out.

I know there was a couple of others that mentioned putting the videos on their phones. Up to this point, I was using a note pad to scribble a few diagrams on to take with me.

I upgraded to the new iPhone 5 (had a 3GS) and the video camera is amazing. Super clear and excellent sound.

I recorded this clip to ask for advice about my stance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydYr6mKyVQM

I haven't downloaded any video to it yet, but playback of the stance analysis video is very sharp on the iPhone 5.

I honestly don't think I'll be using my video camera, a Canon Vixia HF10, very much. It's a great video camera but the iPhone is always with me.

There is so much that you can do with your smartphone.... You're gonna have fun, Greg.

Biggest problem is it is a huge time suck. I'm never away from AZB. Or Facebook. Or Google, or YouTube....you get the idea.

I have a S3 and I will tell you that I'm very impressed with a LOT of it.

But I took a small video on NYE showing my cannon salute and, even though I can see it on the phone just fine (awesome), when I put it on ANY computer the video is messed up or won't play.

Something to consider.

I don't know if it's a problem with MY phone only or if the video got screwed up by the BOOMs or what but I'm disappointed that I can't share the video.

So we were playing our tournament here last weekend. I had a 3 ball almost in the jaws of a pocket with a high ball close. My opponent wanted a ref, no biggie (the first guy to look at my shot said "you can drive a truck through there", but I digress). Then he pulls out his phone and wants to video the shot ! I laughed at him, told him to put his phone away because I am camera-shy ... and slammed the 3 ball into the corner

Hi Clay

That's interesting. I have the S3 and have no problems playing the video. What video player are you trying to use? Keep in mind that the samsung s3 records in MP4 so if you're trying to use windows media player you may need to install a codec pack. Windows media player 11 and older don't have native support for MP4 so you can either install a codec pack or upgrade to windows media player 12 which does have native MP4 support. Hope that get's your videos playing!

I will have to try upgrading media player but I have tried it. And real player. KVM player, Quicktime, and a handful of others. I have a half dozen codec packs installed so I would hope I have them all. Samsung customer support on the issue has been left wanting.

I have a converter on my other computer where I could resample and repair the video but that computer power supply failed.

The funny thing is youtube can't even play the file and when I try to FTP it to my online server it errors out each time. But it transfers from my phone to my laptop, thumb drive and two portable drives just fine.

I'm off to upgrade media player

You probably have it but if not, Google K Lite Codec pack.

That will tune up your Win Media Player some.

Thank you Buddy, I appreciate it. I know its not pool related but my Dad is a 91 yr old vet. He went in for a routine hip replacement and then got C Dif.
Then MSRA. Both were contracted most likely because the staff were not taking enuff safety precautions washing etc.

He was neglected badly. I was lucky and got him into another place that has a vets wing. If we hadn't he would have been gone by now.

I am off on disability from that Hospital and I don't know how I am going to react to some of those people on that wing that I have to work with at times. Probably won't be cool.

My wife, who is a nurse, filed a major complaint with the Health District.

So much for Free Canadian Health Care eh. Working at the Hospital has really opened my eyes wide open. Not an isolated incident from what I can gather so far. Not by a long shot.

Anyway, I will be looking forward to trying out the videos at the hall tonight. It does look like it takes nice pics and will try the video out while playing at some point.

Our technology is so fantastic these days, I have to wonder how people got along in the old days.
Haha, I know. I spent a good part of my child hood in an uninsulated cabin, hauled water, out door biffy, coal oil lamps and a cedar ice chest. When I think back, them were the good ole days. I don't no why but it was a thrill to light those old lamps every evening.

We played cards for entertainment, not on PC phones. At least, I got to see the best of both worlds and the best is yet to come, I bet.
