Left Brain/Right Brain

I saw this video and thought it was interesting. At 2:30 where she talks about the left brain right brain, if applied to pool would explain alot of the thought processes appliied to making a commitment to a shot.

I'm a strong believer in the existence middle brain oriented or even switched-dominance per the activity (like switched eye dominance!). But, I think the latter could only happen if you happen to be closer to middle brain. Some people would simply call it "versatility."

Anectdotally... In my normal every day life, I'm right-brain dominant on most things. But, as an engineer in engineer mode, by default I have to be left-brained dominant.

Certain fools would just assume I'm left-brained dominant 100% of the time. Again, I think unless one straddles the middle, you (general) might not comprehend that possibility.

So, for pool... I think there are times one has to put their left half to the forefront (like in practice). And while playing, it might be the right half that calls or leads the shots.

I saw that some time ago when looking into the operations of the left and right sides of the brain.

I am a firm believer in letting go of thought and just playing. Kinda like auto-pilot.

Thanks for posting the link.

That lady is a very powerful speaker.

When you are on auto pilot which half of the brain is leading the way? The artistic right or the left that has this shot in memory? Just curious..

Practice patting your head and rubbing your stomach and then switch hands. Is this not using both sides?

Probably think this is stupid but I took country dance lessons for years. Wasn't half bad at it. There were so many moves that required your feet to be moving one way and your arms/hands to be doing something different.

Musicians, piano, guitar and many other instruments. Both hands are independent of each other.

Lots of sports require the same.

Football requires you to use your head, put it down and run over the other team like a train.

My dogs, they can wag their tails and eat at the same time.

I think that when I play on auto pilot is when i also feel "in the zone". You are right, she is a strong speaker. Its hard to just let go tho, getting into the zone happens very rarely these days.

The left side.

The is a book that was published some time ago called "Drawing with the Right Side of the Brain" pretty interesting read.

Here is an interesting read......scroll down and take the test.

thanks for the link. I think alot of this is evident when people have strokes. The abilities that are effected really show depending on which side of the brain was hit the hardest.

That was awesome! Thanks. What a speaker. Will be looking at more of her stuff for sure. I like the end when she says to choose who you want to be. Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes. We go through this life but once. If there is any good thing we can say or do, let us do it now as we shall not pass this way again!
