pro players are they the best instructors?

Yes, I agree, however, I said "if" you knew the same stuff.....the teaching is the challenging part. I would be willing to do an experiment, I'll take a volunteer and raise their game up 50% in 3 weeks.

Maybe I'll run a contest and give someone this opportunity for FREE. hmmm, who should I select and how should I select them?

I'm your huckleberry...since I am the one who replied to it, I will be the "example"....I'm an APA 7...make me a world beater!

jackpot...You apparently missed the thread by Stevie Moore (a top pro player), who mentioned SPECIFICALLY that relearning better fundamentals was what took him to where he is now...and that if he had learned these things 20 years ago, it would have a made a huge difference in the time it took him to progress. He knew all the shots...he knew all the strategy...what he didn't know was how inconsistent his stroke was. Once he found that out (from lessons with Stan), and learned how to correct his errors, his game immediately went to a higher level.

I am going to take Stevie up on that 8 hr lesson based on that threead. Thats part of the reason for this thread. I want to say i got cj dvd last week and it a good dvd. I never met a bad pool instructor they got guts to put themselves out there. Right questions get good answers. I like cj alot from things he says he has a go get it i want to win competitive spirit. American style.

Interesting idea. How would you gauge their progress? I have learned that I haven't really achieved a higher level until I have sustained it for a period of time. I have had moments were my game jumped temporarily due to a new understanding of something but the long term effects were slower to show themselves. Maybe that's just my experience though.

You bring up a good point. Anyone can play a great match, but can they do it repeatedly?

If I am used as the example, I can tell you exactly where I am in the pecking order here in Des Moines ahead of time, and then can provide results in the form of tournament results including state etc, gambling (probably small ball), video recording form/runouts, or whatever is recommended. Results can be recorded for the full year to give enough time to gauge the progress.

Edit....I can also have fellow Des Moines members come in this thread or a new created thread to give their input on where I am at pre/post etc.

if I'm successful I would need a written apology from "you know who.

I think by increasing their ball running by 50%, position play accuracy by 50% and of course I'm pretty sure they're mental game would increase that much, although, that might be difficult to measure. I think we could rely on their honesty about that experience.

They would have to be willing to come to Dallas/Ft Worth. I'll have to give this some thought on the how's and who's.....I just know I really like the challenge and would like a chance to prove my techniques. Of course, if I'm successful I would need a written apology from "you know who."

Absolutely, I'll do that for sure! BTW, the pic. on your avatar is you....right? :groucho:

Naturally all this would be "verified" under the pressure of competition...right? Otherwise it doesn't mean a thing.

You should probably pick me

It would be neat to see someone's progress. I wish it were me but I have wont be able to travel to Dallas this year. Now if you happened to be back in your hometown of Greenville I could have made that trip for sure!

Maybe someday!

Until then I'm sure Simp13 will be a excellent student. Good luck to you both.

Whatever is a fair test. Maybe they'll play you a Streaming Video Match as the "competitive part" of the contest.

Thanks bud...if travel is required that may be more difficult (coming from Iowa to Texas)...would need to know dates/how long of a stay etc to see if financially it makes sense on my end. Regardless of who does it, I am curious to see the results pre and post.

Green City Mo is my home town. Greenville was close though :)

Sorry CJ...That's not good enough. What are you afraid of, having the top instructor in the country analyzing what your eye pattern really is? That you might not do what you think you do (probably could be said of most top players)? You might actually LEARN something...just in case you don't already "know it all"!...OR you might prove me wrong! LOL

Opps, my bad. My memory is about as good as my geography. Not sure what is going on between you and Scott but I am sure you both have a wealth of knowledge to pass on to people.

I would be happy to learn from either of you.

It's really nothing Chris. I just thought that it might interest CJ, and a whole bunch of us here, what his eyes actually do...which can only be verified with slow motion/stop action video, which is then analyzed by a professional instructor, with the qualifications to do that (either Randyg or I would fill the bill...as would a few other instructors I can think of).

That's funny, Scott :) ......No the real reason is Jimmy Wetch told me about working with you and your "pool school" on this very subject and it caused irreparable damage.

Would you like me to get a specific story (from Jimmy himself) of how this happened? I will certainly do that if you want me to....do you?....do you really want me to???
It's fun to poke at me isn't it? :groucho:
