Your first break and run

Well I know I may be behind on this because some of you have been shooting pool longer than Ive been around. However Im sure you have to remember your first break and run.

Ive been shooting pool for 1 year exactly at this point. I have had 3 break and runs.

my First one was the first day I had my STL5 and broke an 8 ball rack and sank one ball off break I remember the spread all the stripes were out and about.
I sank the 14 off break
cut the 9 in side pocket leaving shape for 10 in the corner
sank the 10 then the 11, which was hanging
13 was a cut in the side and I got out of shape for the 15 leaving myself a down table cut[something I struggle with though Ive gotten significantly better] got shape to cheat the side pocket on the 12 and managed to leave myself out of shape on the 8 which was clear on the spot I had left myself even and I went for the cut into the corner pocket I rattled it and as if in slow motion taking the shot i see it slowly rolling see it slightly off bouncing off the point 4 times then stopping inthe middle and wobbling then it dropped in the pocket.

I was ecstatic. I could not believe it a low level B player at the end of practice I had felt off that day, but I was proud. No matter how many of my teamates think they are better none of them have had a break and run [except the A players, but thats a different story].

That was my first break and run, and the last 2 that I have had were on Friday. And well Id go in depth on them too! but I want to read your stories

Mine was at age 12 on a bumper pool table....five banks in a row, did it many times.
My first run on a 9-foot table was in 1956 at an alcohol-free teenage pool hall. I experienced my first arrest there for being out after the 10:00 curfew. The place was closed down by the city fathers because of criminals like me!

I've only been playing for a year too, although I suspect I've been around a little longer than you.

I've had maybe a dozen break and runs in 8-ball, but only two in 9-ball and none in 10-ball. The 9-ball BnR was a fluke; after the break, nearly every ball was sitting right outside a pocket.

Mine was 9 ball on a 860 GC. Four balls on the break and two frozen rail
shots. Still wishing for my first 8 and out with one pocket..

Mine was 7 Ball on a Valley bar box. I threw my hands up in excitement and my cue prodded the ceiling fan (it was off) above me.

Can't remember...but

Although, I do remember the first time I broke and ran 3 racks of 9 ball. I broke the 4th rack and the guy shit racked me on purpose. He laughed so hard he almost dropped his cue. Lesson learned!

I remember my first break and run because I didn't even know I had done it. I was newbee playing APA and won the match, went to my opponent to say good match and that's when he told me I had broke and run. I didn't know it was happening.

I realize now that it was my first experience with being in the zone. When I get into it, I don't recall the details afterwards. I have heard others say that they have had similar experiences.

it was after a couple months of playing on the 9' box back in 85. I never considered a bnr on a 7' that was probbly back in 81 before i started going to the pool room in 85.

I actually had the same exact thing happen to me. Except he didn't laugh, I guess I should of expected it.

My first break and run was in a small, in house tourney at our our local club. Double elim 8-ball, best 2-out-of-3 tourney. 9-footers, for the record.

I was on the losers side, and I ran up against an older guy that we all know. At the time, he was a couple skill levels higher than me in the APA, but we all know he can play at a higher level than that. He has early onset alzheimers, and his cue shakes and wobbles greatly when he shoots. I can only imagine how good of a player he was 20 years ago....

He is on the winners side of the bracket, and I am on the losers side, so I have to win twice. Somehow I manage to fight my way through the first game and win. Before the second game (he was undefeated, so I had to beat him twice) a buddy came up to me and said that I better make the 8 on the break, so I could win and be done with it. He was joking with me, busting me a little, all in good fun.

So I break, and get a ball, not the 8. I looked at my buddy, shrugged, and kept on shooting. I ran the rack, for the win.

Good stuff. My opponent got a good laugh out of it, too.

I remember my first break and run (25 years ago), it was what really started my pool obsession. I was over a friend's house and was playing on his father's table in the basement. We had a few friends together and decided to play partner 8 ball.

I broke, got a ball in, then proceeded to run out. One of my opponents said "what the heck could I have done about that?" and my partner said "you could have picked my partner instead". I will always remember that game and that comment. :)

I was younger............

I was playing my pops at the local USO when we were stationed in Iceland. I broke and ran out, I didn't know really how to get position on anything I was just a natural good shot and wherever the cb rolled that's where it went. Lol, my dad even said afterwards that I was one lucky SOB haha. After that he wiped the floor with me till I suggested we play ping pong..even then he still kicked my ass....

Yep I remember my first real break and run. I broke and ran in my first local regional playoffs my first year of playing as an SL3. Needless to say I was ecstatic and I still remember the disbelief on my team member's faces.

Granted nowadays I get about 1 a night but none are anywhere near as special as that first one.

Like you I have only been playing for just over a year. My first Break and run came when I was just shooting around with a friend. I broke the 8ball rack and dropped four on the break (three stripes/1 solid). The table was pretty wide open and both looked good but I took the stripes.

I shot the 15 in straight in the side pocket stopping the cue ball dead. I then played 13 to 10 combo in left hand corner by the head rail using a soft draw stroke to come back and play the 13 in the same corner.

My last shot was slight cut shot to corner I remember really having no idea how to get on the 8 but I used center ball cut the 11 in the corner and the cue came back to the center leaving a pretty easy shot on the 8 in the opposite corner.

When the 8 fell I jumped around like I had won a million dollars. Sometimes I wish I had not experienced that feeling because I am still learning the game and I am constantly trying to run the rack even when I shouldn't because it's impossible to.

A good memory... playing a buddy who always played about even with me and...where is that guy now I wonder? Think it was the middle of the day and just us. I jumped up and yelled and he looked kind of embarrassed like "ok, I know it's a runout but settle down".

I went over to tell the room owner, a super nice guy, and he congratulated me. I seem to remember making my first full ball close masse too, right around then. Tight little 2-foot hook to plant the 8 in the side.

It's almost depressing because I can't imagine being that excited about anything pool-related again except maybe running 100 in straight pool. Or a 4-pack maybe, I've never gotten past 3.

I had better control of Masse's before my runout but on friday at the same practice I had been left sitting in the pocket with object ball hanging in the same pocket, [2.25 pockets ], instead of trying a bank like normal I pulled a masse went out about a foot and a half the draw back caught hit the object ball perfectly and left decent shape for a shot on the 8 could have been better shape but it was just a matter of pulling it off in a game when I only had one chance and if I missed I was beat.

Hmm my first one was a bit before I really started getting into pool. That was like 5 months or so after I had started. It was a game of 8 ball on a 6 ft table.
Now I do it commonly. 9 ball even more commonly.

I remember the place, table, and opponent for my first 8-Ball break and run. The thing I remember MOST is what an idiot I made of myself. I didn't realize I had runout, and when the guy told me, I started jumping up and down with excitement. I don't remember the runout itself.

My first 9-Ball break and run was one or two tables over from the other one. I was playing some random non-player. He thought I was a jerk for running out on him, and couldn't appreciate what I had just done at all!

I have absolutely no idea of my first one. I am pretty sure that I have done it before but have no memory of it.
