I have played BCA for about 27 years! I play in two BCA leagues a week. Only ones I've played in as far as leagues, but I went to the ACS Nationals last year and going back this year.

you left out the napa league. if it was in the poll i would have voted for it.

although i have been a staunch supporter on here for apa i really had to mull my decision over for quite a while before placing my vote.

i joined an in house money league 2 months ago that uses the bcapl format and i really enjoy playing in it. i love all the break and runs i have been able to attain in this league with the open break rule. i have made more break and runs in the last 2 months in this league than i have in 2 1/2 years of playing apa.

i voted apa because i prefer the matching up and race to your handicap over the round robin and points based format of bcapl. matching up in a race to your handicap seems more like real pool , just like when you match up against an opponent in a pool hall and an a player spots a b player a game on the wire.

thats why i prefer napa. it gives you the open break, call shot, but you match up in a real race according to your handicap.it give you the best of both leagues in my opinion.

I tried BCAPL for a while. It was ok. I doubt that I'll do the league thing again anytime soon.

You didn't include NAPA or "None of the above". I would select either of those two to the options given.

I've played in BCA, APA, in house leagues too. As for rules, I prefer BCA. As for format, I prefer APA. I like playing my matches in a race, not, one game then sit and wait.

The in house singles league I played in was the best format to me.

Played in APA and BCA.

Between those two, I think APA has a better atmosphere.
The whole team sweats each player's match.
You get a real team vibe.

In the BCA, it doesn't feel much like a team. Nobody's watching anyone else's match because it's just one game. You're constantly hopping up to play, then sitting back down, then jumping back in, then sitting back down.

I'd much rather play one race to 5, than 5 races to 1. And in the APA, when you're done for the night, you're done... you can relax, sweat your buddy's match, play a few racks, hit the bar, or just go home.

Also, while some APA rules are not as fair as their BCA equivalents...
the overall outcome is more fair because you're playing a race rather than a single game.
It's funny the APA is presented as the noob league and BCA as the advanced league... any advanced player will tell you that a single game is no good for judging the better player.

Inadequate poll

In all fairness to make a true comparison one would have to have played in all of the leagues being judged here.

Yes, surprised no one else made this point sooner.

A more useful poll would list more options, or ask that the responders reveal what leagues they've actually played in.

I've played in four national league systems, two regional systems and at least eight non-affiliated leagues, since 1966.

I've enjoyed playing most in VNEA and BCA leagues. I like ACS as well, but had no luck getting an ACS league going.

I haven't played TAP or the other newer systems, so I have no opinion on them.

Just seeing which one folks preffered..
Thanks:thumbup:

Like other posters, there are several other leagues left off your post. In any given year, play in six BCAPL / ACS sessions, six APA sessions and now VNEA. Was invited to play TAP. No league in Upstate New York. There is one in Vegas. From time to time I sub.

Considering all the different formats, give me the BCAPL / ACS every time! Must admit the new ball in hand rules makes winning a rack much more difficult for the weaker player. Does speed things up a bit. Not sure it's a good thing!
