Hey All,

Just wondering, does anybody out there tinker with their cues? I'm always changing wraps, tips, changing shaft diameter etc. No real reason I guess. Just like to try different stuff with them.

Am I in the minority on this?

I don't know about being in the minority, but most of the players I have personal interaction with do nothing to very little with their cues/shafts.

I myself do nothing to a butt, with the exception of weight-bolt removal (if needed) to get the cue in the 18.5 to 19.5oz. range.

I change/install my own tips and have done much experimenting with different types/hardness/thickness, etc.

Also, I don't particularly like a finish on my playing shafts, and small dings drive me bonkers, so I will usually take some sandpaper to any shaft I acquire. If it has small dings, I'll give it a quick touch with 400 grit, working up through 600, 1000, 1500, and end with 2000 grit, then burnish with leather. If there are no dings, I'll start with 600 grit. There are persons on here that think this treatment of my shafts is blasphemous. I don't care if I remove a little wood. If they get where they are unplayable, I'll just get some new shafts. It's not like I do it every week or something. It's only every once in a great while. I haven't had to replace a single shaft yet!!!

Hold on.....I tinker, right now I am experimenting with a :confused:64" cue, a 74" cue, and a 77" cue... Now that's tinkering.....how? ....multiple joints, multiple cues and still not exceeding 3 CUES!"....oh yeah, and a 58" and a 59"....
