I would say that most amatuers buy a custom cue because of ego. Professionals buy a custom cue because they can feel the difference in the hit of different cues. By the way, Marconi shot with a custom cue.
He did? Heck, I would've thought he was too busy on the "radio"....
As an amendment to what I said on my previous post,I think some prices are ridiculous.$3000 for a cue is just ridiculous. You can buy a driveable used car,or several nice tailored suits for that much. I want to get a Joss custom someday, already have the design in my head, but if it's too much, I'll walk away and keep playing with my "production" Joss cues.

Bet they could use you in the White House. All you need is a shot gun for home protection. "Nobody needs a AK-47".
The same reason a dog licks his balls....because he can.
Personal preference for feel/balance/feedback is not linear with cost.
Can someone send me links to information or explain to me the benefit of spending a couple hundred dollars or even thousands on a cue stick?
I just recently bought a McDermott G204. It ran me $209
It is a well made American cue, G-Core shaft.
It should do me very nicely for being an intermediate player....
In fact this cue will be better than me for years to come.
But what I notice is that there are a lot of amateur pool players who are shelling out $300+ for these cue sticks that wont make them play any better...
Back in the day people were pocketing balls with straight sticks and maple shafts...
Now we have this predator LD nonsense.
Whats the point? Pool is a very simple game, with a simple wooden tool.
If anyone can give me some insight...I am just recently taking the game more seriously
Those people are idiots

Lol.......always laugh when people say you can do more with certain cues/shafts.
I play with a predator and like them, but you can do the same thing with any other cue or shaft. They difference is the path the ball takes to the object ball.
You can't change physics, its all the same. You aren't going to do more with a predator that what can be down with a regular shaft, maybe it helps YOU do some things better, but its not because its a predator, its just because the path the cue takes is easier for you to work with than with a higher deflection shaft. Other people can do the same shit you can do with non predator shafts.
For shits and giggles though.......tell us why you think you can draw better with your z2 and do "stuff others can't."
