Magic Eraser is Melamine

Magic Eraser is Melamine

The magic eraser does 'fall apart' as it is used and therefore leave a film/residue, that is normal. I use them with denatured alcohol, so there isn't any water in it. The eraser has a micro-abrasive in it I think, but not something that will sand your shaft.

Melamine

I tried to find more info on Magic Erasers and on the web you will find everything from 1500 to 3600 sand paper equivalent. So, looks like it does remove some shaft material, no wonder it worked so well. I'll go back to the paper bag.

I wasn't aware that you can clean a shaft with a paper bag.

Everything, including your fingers cause friction and so will eventually remove material.

shaft clean

Your right a paper bag wont clean only burnish, another topic not for this cleaning post.

Like almost everyone else,I use the Eraser.

I feel like the liquid used can also be important.

Denatured alcohol is what I use most of the time.

However,in cases of really dirty/poorly cared for/neglected shafts,I use a common household degreaser.

For a long time,it was Awesome Oxygen-Orange. I also use a Dollar Tree product called Ultra Oxygen in the blue bottle. Tommy D.

If I have cleaned the shaft before and sealed it using the speed seal from cc,
Then I will use the cleaner from Chris.
If it is a new customer I will use the cleaner from unique.

I have been using Atlas brand cleaner on the ferrules and Unique on the wood. The Atlas is cheaper, works good on the ferrules but I dont like it on the shafts because it turns into a wet chalk and can get messy. The Unique does not dry up and is easy to work with.

Darcy, I just tried the Speed Seal II on a shaft with their wax and ended up with a gummy, half sticky mess. Any secret to using that? Maybe need to sand more, have to let it dry for a while? I have been using Rapid Pad and Unique wax. Has done a decent job and glides smooth but I have heard you can get the CC sealer really smooth that the shaft will about fly out of your hand.

I apply the speed seal pretty sparingly, let it tack up almost dry, then add a second coat.
Keep spinning until totally dry then fans with 600 really lightly
I really like joes wax too
I apply it lightly with paper towel, then flip the towel to a clean section and buff it.
I get pretty solid results that way :)

Thanks Darcy! I prob had too much wax on there. It was the first time I used them both and I was at a tournament, so a lot was going on. With most things if a little is good, more will be better but not so true with wax!
