For a top level player, how much more difficult is it to break and run a rack of 8 ball if you have to shoot every ball in order (1-7, 9-15)?

If it's harder than regular 8 ball, maybe this should be the game.

1. Common person likes 8 ball. Easy to understand the rules.
2. More strategy than 9 ball, but not as boring as 1pocket (for the average Joe).
3. Harder to pattern rack a full rack??
 
Interesting. I'd like to try but I think there needs to be formal rules and a specific order for racking. Think that up and let me know.
 
that could be a tough game have you tried it? I like the idea I may try it when I play next

This would be a good game for the pros on a 9' table (the traffic would be brutal on a barbox, even for the pros, imo). It would offer both players a chance at the table in MOST of the games played. Problem is, if it makes perfect sense, you're not going to see it happen in professional pool :frown:. Professional pool tends to embrace the prehistoric game of 9-ball and the fan-weary antics of racking wars.

And....if they wanted to make your game even harder, last pocket 8-ball.

Good idea though. If you could just sell it to somebody in the business.

8-ball in rotation would be brutal, and surely would take a lot of time to play a game. Not saying I would not give it a whirl though......

I always liked "coalminers" 8-ball. Not sure where that name came from, so if someone knows,please chime in.

Anyway, if you are solids, you MUST shoot the one ball in the right side pocket, and if you are stripes, the 15 ball MUST be shot into the left side pocket. Obviously, if someone "pushes" their 1 or 15 ball near the side pocket, you surely can "combo" it out of the way if you hit your ball first.

The three foul rule is in affect. So, the so called "failed" run out really begins to hurt when you have one ball left and your opponent has balls all over to "hide" behind........

anyone else play this game ??
 
I shoot the balls in order against by wife who is a beginner as a handicap. It is quite difficult and she beats me once in a while
 
"Action 8-ball" is similar to this but only uses 9 balls, 1-4, 9-12 and the 8-ball.

You rack like 9-ball, with the 8-ball in the center and you play your groups in order.

ChicagoRJ, "coalminers" 8-ball is also called "1-15 8-ball"... never played it though.
 
Very similar to "Boy Meets Girl" or "Mr. And Mrs.," a game designed to more fairly pit very weak players against very strong players. "Boy" plays rotation 8, "girl" plays slop 8-ball.

I played it against my girlfriend and went 10-2, then left-handed the next time and lost 6-3. Good way to practice and keep things interesting when you reach the level of running out a very high percentage of the time.

Never tried playing it complete rotation with another good player. Most just want to practice normal 8 ball and feel good about mastering simple patterns.
 
Do you have to hit the ball up next in your set or it's a foul? If so it seems like the player who gained control of the table would have a tremendous advantage. Even more so than other games with all the balls except one being traffic and blockers.

Great Game...

We call it "Inside Out or Outside In" (start toward the middle or start toward the outside), plus we add the Last Pocket rule for the 8-Ball
